3 things
I took advantage of my day off to get crafty (it has been a long time). I made up some fun Fimo beads (here's Roger checking them out)Some are a geo style which I've seen on a blog or two and thought I'd give them a go. Kinda cute, eh?
Today I am also working on my first ever batch of sourdough bread. Wow, sourdough is a cross between a science experiment and taking on a new kitten. I was out at dinner last night and actually said, 'oh sorry I need to be home by 10 so I can feed my starter...' Yes I am that lame. But really it is interesting watching it grow and bubble in my kitchen. more to come
And on my desktop I get one of those 'today in history' feeds and today proves to be a strange mix of histocial happenings. On this day in 1922 the first ever Newbery Medal was awarded (this year's winner looks like a cracker of a book, I need to put that one on my list). Also on this day police and patrons of the Stonewall Inn clashed violently in New York which became a defining moment in the gay rights movement. The Stonewall Hotel in darlinghurst(named after the NY Inn) is hosting the Sydney Launch party for the It Gets Better campaign.
Anyway, I should check on my bread

Thinking of Mrs Parker
On the 8th of June way back in 1967 (ok, that wasn't really that long ago) we lost the amazing Dorothy Parker. My mom introduced me to her writings at some point (NO idea when, she's just always been there, kinda like the book To Kill A Mockingbird). Dorothy Parker was witty, wry and had a huge influence on me. She was a woman who could hold court with the big boys and write like no one I'd ever read.
So tonight I'll bust out my Portable Dorothy Parker and have a good read.
Ironically, I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow morning. But Rob totally disagrees with Mrs Parker's assesment of girls who wear glasses.

Hi again
Yes, this blog is still alive, very neglected...but still alive.
Now that I have just about finished my uni studies (so close, yet so far) I thought it might be time to resurect this bad boy.
So this weekend is all about the Vivid Festival at my house. Tonight we are seeing Cory Doctorow talk at the newly refurbished MCA, then tomorrow is the Etsy Success conference and Sunday is the LCD Soundsystem doco Shut Up and Play the Hits at the Opera House.
Phew, I'm tired already....
more later
