Boxing Day, still sick. But
Boxing Day, still sick. But thanks to my Mom I have lots of new Queer Eye and MST3K to watch.
One of the things I love about this time of year are those 'year end wrap-ups'. This site seems to have every list on the net. wow.
And tonight is World Idol. I can't wait to see how Guy does. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

ok, I know its been like 100 years since this journal has been updated.
work has been way out of hand. so much so that I'm now sick on Christmas.
yeah, poor me and all.
whatever.
it is very hot in Sydney today. It was 30 by 11am. The cat is very distressed by the heat. He sits in front of the fan and his little nose goes bright red. Poor pookie.
Rob is reinstalling our operating system today so it looke like I have to get off the 'net for the moment. But that's cool, I should be sleeping anyway.

Brainstorming.
So the hubby has an airbrush, right? And they sell these cheap muslin (aka calico for the Aussies) bags at Lincrap, I mean Lincraft (I always get that wrong...). So I'm thinkin' about making some fun bags with the airbrush and some fabric paint an selling them at the markets (see Kris, I haven't forgotten that conversation!)
They are a good size for knitting or for carrying library books. I don't know if this should be a free-hand sort of fancy writing affair or if I should get some stencils. I can play with it.
Here are a few thoughts for slogans:
Knitting
-The one who dies with the most yarn wins
-Will knit for beer
-Drop stitches not bombs (I like that one!)
Reading/Libraries
-There's more to life than books you know, but not much more. (I know, that one is way too long, but I love The Smiths)
-I read and I vote (many local libraries are losing their funding at the moment)
-I got the book at the library (a spoof on a local bookstore that has the slogan 'I got the book at _____' on their carry bags)
more later

I was going to do
I was going to do the friday five before work but it looks like it isnt' up yet.
So instead here is what Rob and I have been working on:
Advance Australia Fair
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil
Our home is girt* by sea
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair
*'girt' means to encircle
Waltzing Matilda
Once a jolly swagman camped by a Billabong
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"
Down come a jumbuck to drink at the water hole
Up jumped a swagman and grabbed him in glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker bag
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me'".
Up rode the Squatter a riding his thoroughbred
Up rode the Trooper - one, two, three
"Where's that jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?",
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
But the swagman he up and jumped in the water hole
Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree,
And his ghost may be heard as it sings in the Billabong,
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"
A.B. (Banjo) Paterson
We figure they will ask us the lyrics to at least one of them in the interview for citizenship.

Lost in Translation opens in
Lost in Translation opens in Sydney on Boxing Day. I know everyone else will be out seeing the new Lord of trhe Rings flick so we might see that later and make our way to the Dendy. My Mom tells me this is a film not to miss. There is even talk that Bill Murray should be nominated for an Oscar. I never thought I'd type that line!

22 days until Christmas. Good
22 days until Christmas. Good lord, where has the year gone?
I ordered the Glitter buttons from Plain Mabel yesterday and then got my copy of Venus (thanks again Amy) and there was an ad for Plain Mabel. Small World.
And I had my final exam last night. I think I did pretty good. A few of us went out for a celebratory drink after class. Nice release after a stressful time. One of the people in my class (he works at the Parlimentary Library) told me that they will be hiring after the first of the year. Figures. Just as I'm starting a new job. Oh well. Id rather work at Powerhouse anyway. Next year.
One of my girlfriends is turning the big three-oh soon and I'm going to have to come up with a good birthday prezzie for her. I have a couple of weeks to think about it. It's not every day that one turns thirty.

Queer Eye And last night
Queer Eye
And last night when we were watching Queer Eye we started talking about making a Queer Eye Drinking Game. I looked at a few on the 'net and all of them were like a list of 50 things long. I don't know about you, but I like my drinking games to be short and sweet.
Here is what we came up with:
1. Drink anytime someone says 'Oh My Gawd' (You can if you want stop right here and just drink everytime you hear 'Oh My Gawd'. Belive me, it'll be enough!!)
2. Drink anytime there is a sexual innuendo between one of the Fab Five and the Token Straight Guy.
3. Drink when you see any of the Token Straight Guy's stuff thrown out from a window or door.
4. One rule for each of the Fab Five. Drink when:
Carson- Makes a reference to any poplar culture figure. (LaToya Jackson, Elvis, etc)
Kyan- Talks about how fast straight guys shave.
Jai- Anytime he sings or dances.
Thom- Anytime he talks with a Southern accent.
Ted- Anytime the Token Straight Guy screws up the food, drink, etc and Ted gives him snaps for his effort anyway. (Ted is such a nice guy)
5. One last one. Anytime you hear the phrase 'Cheers Queers' drink. Finish your drink if the straight guys says it.
For future use. Not related to the other below. Just a crafty link I want to remember.

Monday
Today is the first day of my last week in my current role.
WHOO-HOO!! Can you tell I'm a little excited? I really just want to slack off this week. It is so hard to stay motivated when you know you wont be there next week. No to mention I have 2 more Christmas parties this week! My poor liver.
Last night was the swanky company Christmas party. It wasn't too painful. The space where they held is beautiful. It did get a little cramped when everyone showed up. I did get lots of handshakes and congratulations about my new role. I think they have high hopes for me in this role. (a little scary, but in a good way). And with us opening new stores next year (one in Melbourne and one in Brisbane so far) I should get to do a little travel too! Bonus! I told the general manager that if they ever need someone to go to Chicago for any reason I'm the girl.
My last final is tomorrow night. I think we might go out for a beer after. (Yikes, more drinking) I'll be studying tonight. Until Queer Eye starts of course! It should be pretty easy, it is open book after all. And then I am done until next year. Wow, I can't believe that I've made it through my first semester unscathed.
I need to stop slacking off and go to work now.
Really.
