I have the hiccups. Again.

I have the hiccups. Again. For the 3rd time today. I think I might be a little stressed out about work and school and a million other things ( and maybe I'm just a little hormonal...).

Anyway, we have a Pirate Party coming up at work (for the end of our Summer Reading Program) and I've decided to go as a actual female pirate. I've chosen Anne Bonny. She kicked ass and took names! She even has an action figure! (how cool is that?) Anyway,  I thought I should come as some historical pirate instead of just a generic one, ya know?

And Kris is right, even we are watching the tennis....

Oh, come on now....did they

Oh, come on now....did they learn nothing from Elektra or Catwoman ? They should just leave Aeon Flux alone. But I wonder if she will talk? Probably....there is no way the US public would sit through a 2 hour film with no dialogue. bummer.

Well, the 2005 bloggie nominations

Well, the 2005 bloggie nominations are up, And while most are pretty expected (GO DOOCE!) I did find one little gem. I am shocked and amazed that I have never read this blog before. Bizgirl is a cool-ass Kiwi Librarian. It's nice to know that the same library craziness happens on both sides of the Tasman . Unfortunately she just got dooced, so if you happen to know any Library gigs going in the Wellington area, ya might drop her a line......

(wow, that's TWO Dooce references in the same post, I gotta get out more.)

Oh, and I just wanted to mention Monday's SNB again. Just in case ya missed the open invite.

recipe

tuna, tomato, green beans, spanish onions, potatos, artichoke hearts, olive oil and fresh black pepper. The green beans and potatos were cooked and the whole thing was served chilled.
That's what made up the salad I had on Australia Day. Damn it was yummy. I just wanted to type it here so I could keep it for future reference.

Now we are going to have some pies and beers for dinner. (then maybe some ice cream, mmm)

This awsome link from Kris.

This awsome link from Kris. I must admit that I am still really crap about sending thank-you notes (sorry...) And since we are in Sydney, we don't have to worry about #7 (knowing how to calculate a tip) and I take issue with #9, if you don't want to wear high heels why should you have to learn to walk in there. But if you do want to walk in high heels (Julia Roberts, are you listening?) then by all means get it together.

BUT, I could write a whole post about #4 (learning how to walk!!!) Rob and I have decided that we are sick of being nice to rude people on the footpath (sidewalk). People who just meander from side to side, walk three people abreast, talk loudly about this and that on their mobile phone and those who keep their headphone on when they are being served by someone (like a friendly neighborhood library assistant!!!). SO unless you are under 15, read the rules and pull your thumb out!

On a more serious note, I just love it when my SIL goes off on Bush. She points out just how, well, offensive, it is for Bush to be throwing Wank Fest 2005 while the death toll from the tsunami just topped 250,000. ug.

testing, testing....Are we on? Cool,

testing, testing....Are we on?

Cool, things are back and running. I know there has been like 100 things I wanted to post over the last day or two but as I'm sitting here I can only think of a couple of things........

1. I had to give the kitty a bit of a haircut this weekend. Around his backside. Things were, shall we say, sticking to his fur. It's like what the ranchers do to the sheep. I think it did the trick because hasn't scooted at all (that I have noticed.)

2. OK, I don't want to link back to these images because I don't want to embarrass (or piss off) the person who went to all the trouble to knit these pieces but go over to Flickr and search for 'knitting' in the tags and look through the images till you find the sweater with a felted heart (as in human heart) on it. I love the concept, knitting the parts of the body onto the part of the sweater that covers that part of the body (heart, lungs, hands, etc) but the knitting is poor and the colours are ugly. yuck. Good concept, bad execution.

3. I want my sofa NOW. I wont have it till at least next month, but I SO want it now......grumph....very cranky..../temper tantrum

aahhhh

It is Thursday night and I'm sitting here with beer in the fridge, fake tattoo on my left bicep, and the next three days off of work. I love the looking forward to having three full days stretched out in front of me.
And, on top of that, I had a great day at work. I think that is the first time in my life I've been able to day that (ok, maybe the first time in over a decade). I really like what I do for a living. I love that I'm having an affect on kids. That what I do hopefully gets kids excited about reading and coming to the library. And if that in turn gets them to be life-long readers then I can feel pretty good. ya know?

I just got this link

I just got this link off of Kris. It is a bunch of before/after satellite shots of the devastation caused by the Asian tsunami. Wow. I mean you know in your head that lots of stuff got washed away. But here you can see the houses, parks, roads, etc in the 'before' shots that could be any neighborhood anywhere. Then, well, just brown mud. Wow. Some of the images from Banda Aceh have really floored me. These people are gong to need a lot of money to rebuild.

On a happier note, Australia donated over $15 million dollars last night when the three major TV networks ran a so-called 'star studded' telethon. And that money is on top of the $120 million already donated by the Aussie public to various aid agencies. Right now I am very proud to be an Australian citizen. (I think I'll sort that passport stuff out today...)

(The Australian Red Cross. Just in case anyone out there has been living under a rock)

Oh, I forgot, this link

Oh, I forgot, this link ROCKS! You put in what you have in your bar (vodka, apple juice, whiskey, Mad Dog 20/20, whatever) and it tells you what drinks you can make out of the stuff you have. How cool is that? (Kris, I thought this was right up your alley)

I feel  like a real

I feel  like a real grown up tonight. We bought a proper sofa today. We got The Memphis, aint it purdy? No, not in the white, it is going to be "paprika", aka red, And we got the it with a chaise at one end and wooden legs instead of the metal ones.  It's gonna take a few weeks before we can actually get it, but it was on sale so i guess I can wait. (So Mom, when you come down we will have to go accessory shopping. And maybe look for a new coffee table....Shame, huh?)
