OK, I don't mean to
OK, I don't mean to toot my own horn but I picked up the Winter 04/05 Vogue Knitting International and they have a review Stitch N Bitch Nation. One part of the review says:
...it's the cheerier fare that mose intrugues. Standouts include dolls in the likeness of musicians Joan Jett, oey Ramone and Henry Rollins; a tea cozy that says 'Coffe tea or me?...
colour me stoked!
And there is a snippit about this really cool exhibit about Mr Rogers. You have to see it to believe it. I might just have to knit a cardigan next.....(for the Aussies: Mr Rogers was this children's television host for over 30 years. He was the most gentle soul ever. And he always wore a cardigan. I actually cried when I heard about his death in 2003)

Big hugs and lots of
Big hugs and lots of love go out to Jim and Amy today. See, they lost their beloved pup Henry Hooligan to a mystery illness. She had been pretty unwell for a week or so and just never improved. Jim and Amy are both the biggest animal lovers you will ever meet so I can't imagine how hard this must be for them. If you have ever dropped into their blogs please stop in again and lend them a little love.
And Henry, wherever you are, I hope the snow is fluffy, the food is hot and there are lots of faces to lick. Take care ol' girl. You will be missed.

look out! one long train of thought comin' at ya
So we are about to come up to what they call the 'Easter Racing Carnival'. Bascially there are a bunch of horse races coming up and they need to make money on them. The powers that be try to promot this whole thing to women with the angle "hey look, go out and buy a pretty frock and hat and come to the races with your girlfriends, it'll be great!". (Yeah, whatever. We know you guys just want us to drop money on your nags and buy over priced sparkling wine.)
But anyway...
They have this commercial on TV with this lady getting dressed in this fabulous frock and there is this great song playing in the background. It took me a while to find out who does the song but it is British singer Kirsty MacColl and the song is called 'In These Shoes'. Here is the bit they use on the ad:
I once met a man with a sense of adventure
He was dressed to thrill wherever he went
He said "Let's make love on a mountain top
Under the stars on a big hard rock"
I said "In these shoes?
I don't think so"
I said "Honey, let's do it here."
It's kinda jazzy and she has lots of attitude. Think sort of Blossom Dearie crossed with Bette Midler with a little South American spice thrown in. As I found out she has been around for a gazillion years, worked with just about everybody (Talking Heads, The Smiths, and the Pogues to name a few), and is unfortunately no longer with us. I think I'm going to go out now and see if I can find a bunch of her music (maybe we have some at the library). I know there are some people who will be amazed that she is new to me, but lay off, I never saw Buena Vista Social Club, ok?
My point is, (yes, thers is a point) don't you just love it when something like this happens? Here is this b.s. ad for horse racing but out of it people (like me!) all over Sydney are discovering this groovie singer that they somehow missed up to this point.

(just as an aside, as the actress in the ad is zipping up her dress you can see that she is wearing hot pink undies under a white beaded dress, now maybe it's just me but I would never in a million years wear pink undies under a white dress. Who's with me?)

I have been searching high
I have been searching high and low for a particular t-shirt. I want a solid v-neck T with little puffed sleeves. Something fitted that isn't cropped. I've seen a few people wearing them but I can't find one to buy. If I could find it I would get one if every colour. (ok, grey, black, white, pink maybe....) But alas it just not seem to exist. Maybe I should hit Chinatown.

I want to use this project to learn some new stitches (maybe some fancy cabling...) and practice my stitching up skills.

There is this TV show
There is this TV show here called Inspector Rex. It is a Russian cop show with car chases, bad guys and stacks of suspense. Sounds like every other Law and Order you have seen, right? Wrong buddy boy. See Inspector Rex is a dog. And I don't mean a skirt chaser, I mean a biscuit eating, butt licking, fur faced German Shepard.
I have not managed to sit through an entire episode (the subtitles at 10pm are kind of hard for me) so I can't tell you what it is like, but apparently lots of people love this 'crime busting canine'. I just don't get it....

Just in case you
Just in case you were wondering, one does not "use an apostrophe for plurals of shortened forms" of words (at least according to Deakin Uni). So the plural of CD is CDs and DVD becomes DVDs (not CD's or DVD'd). The only reason I'm posting this is because on the wall of my library, the sign reads "DVD'S" and it really bugs me.
I feel better now.

There was this stinky guy
There was this stinky guy in the library today. Now like all public libraries we get our fair share of, shall we say, eccentrics, but this guy decided to park himself smack bang in the middle of the children's library to sort his considerable pile of paper. Now that would have been ok exccept for two things; 1. I needed to do some shelving in the kids area and there was no possible way I could brave the smelly mix of muscle cream, urine and mold. 2. He felt the need to confront anyone who wanted to look at the picture books by informing them that he was a 'Russian fighter pilot' and ask them, 'hey, what are you?' (quite deep really).
Four o'clock could not some quickly enough.

So today I ended up
So today I ended up with my high school fight song stuck in my head today (I guess all those Friday afternoons when they yanked us out of class for the pep rallies affected me) but I could only think if the first verse. Horrors! So of course I had to look it up and find out the whole thing, right? (it's the second one) I found out two interesting things about the song. First, it was written by Lawrence Fogelberg, Dan Fogelberg's father. (if you don't know who I'm talking about, ask your parents, they will know) Second, it is no longer called a 'fight song', it is called a 'pep song'. (Please!) And get this, they changed my high school colours! They used to be blue and gold but now they are blue and gray. Yuck!
For the record I was not really into high school. I think I made it to 4 or 5 football games in my time and I was never on student council or anything, but we were required to learn the fight song (I think there was even a test). Go fig.

Dear Martha, I know you
Dear Martha,
I know you have been in prison for the last few months so you are forgiven for not being up on the latest trends and all.... and rumour has it that it was knitted by your fellow inmates... but listen to me very closely, step away from the poncho. Take if off, hand wash it in homemade lavender wool wash, fold it and wrap it in tissue then stick it in your hand carved cedar hope chest and just forget about it. Truly. You'll thank me later.
Yours,

ok, is this a JOKE? Shannon Noll just beat out Eminem, Usher, and Robbie Williams for the 'Best Male Vocal' award at the Aussie MTV VMAs. Good lord. Do you think that gave it to the person that was actually available to pick up the statue. Get real. I'm going to bed.

OK, I know I've been a little MIA lately. My Mom has been here and I'm still getting over this blasted flu. ug. But we did manage to squeeze in some touristy stuff. We went to the Sydney Observatory, watched lots of Kath and Kim, saw a drag show and hung out at Doyle's. This little guy (above pic) came to eat some grapes and taunt the cat, very cute.
More later, the hubby says I need some rest.
