I've been spending this morning

I've been spending this morning at Tricks of the Trade. What an amazing bunch of info. But there is way too much info about 'nose oil'.  (Link from Not Martha)

So we are going to

So we are going to celebrate the release of the new Harry Potter book with a train ride to Hogsmeade. How cool is that? That has gotten me thinkin' about a costume. (Rob's going as a Muggle, complete with cap!)  I want to go as Madame Pince the librarian. Then i can use it at work for our Harry Potter party that we are planning, good fun! So, I've ordered the hat (it will need  few feathers I think) and I have a long black satin skirt so now I just need a really groovy black velvet jacket with sorta puffy sleeves and lots of buttons down the front. I might need some cat eye glasses too....Maybe some thrifting is in order as well. Sounds like I need to do a spot of shopping. (This is really the only photo of the film version of Madame Pince that I can find, so I'm taking a bit of artistic license.)

OK man, this is freakin'

OK man, this is freakin' me out. I have a friend in the top 10 charts. The drummer of Mudvayne (Matt McDonough) actually introduced me to my husband, aint that just nutty? See, Matt and I were very good friends in high school but before he lived in Peoria he lived in Rockford, where my hubby is from. Rob was older (he was at University) and living in Chicago when we were still in high school, so whenever Matt and I would drive up to Chicago to see a concert we would stay with his old friend Rob. So if it weren't for Matt I would have never met my lovin' hubby.

I'm so proud that his band is doing well. I know how hard he worked all those years. Rock on!!!

April 22, 2005

the rant starts here.

What a crazy week. My supervisor is still out sick so I'm still holding down the fort with all the stuff for the kiddies (story times, crafty stuff, a visit to the zoo, even a safari party) And I haven't been sleeping very well. The cat has been very, well, nocturnal lately, and on top of that I'm PMSing up the wazoo. So, I'm a little wiped out. (that is SUCH an understatement) But hey, I still made it to the gym twice this week, so there.

Anyway,  today my boss came into the office to tell me that the gal I'm fillling in for rang today (in case you don't know, I've been filling in for a gal that is on maternity leave. In Australia you can take up to a year off in maternity leave, and she is due to come back at the end of May, but everyone in the office thought she would not come back.) Well, as it turns out she wants to come back, but only part time. AND she is pregnant again. I'm totally cool with working part time because then I can go to school full time. But what concerns me is what if she comes back, I sign up for classes and agree to work part time, then she up and quits because it is too hard with a baby and another on the way and work, ya know? But is my work going to have to find someone full time? Do I still get holiday pay if I'm part time? And what happens when she goes off to have this baby? I guess we will have to work out the finer details next week. I'll try not to stress too much.

But now for something completely different. If you need a giggle and don't offend too easily go check out porn bread. Too funny. At least in my sick little mind.

Only a few of you will get this one.....

So there is this song that is getting a lot of air play here. It is a cover of an Aussie classic called 'Evie pt. One'.

The chorus goes 'Evie, Evie, Evie let your hair hang down'. But when the singer says 'Evie' it comes out sounding like 'Ev-AH' and Rob thinks it sounds like he is saying 'Ebay'. And so we have been making up our own lyrics that make it sound like an Ebay ad like 'Ebay, Ebay, sell they stuff that you don't use' and 'Ebay, Ebay, get yourself a real good deal'. I just can't here the song anymore without giggling.

Cool, one of those blue

Cool, one of those blue wrist band thingos that I would actually wear.

I had the girls (and Clinton) over yesterday to watch Craft Corner Deathmatch yesterday. I agree with Kris that the host is utterly annoying (and WAY too condescending) and should be replaced by some witty drag queen in a handmade frock, but other than that, I quite enjoyed it. I think if they choose the projects wisely they will get some pretting interesting stuff. And I really like the little vignettes about the crafts and the history lessons (the history of the rhinestone was very cool). I think once they work out some of the bugs (maybe they could spend more time talking to the judges and less time on the host) it has the potential to be some really fun TV. I'm going to keep watching cuz I want to see Jenny Hart and Ertha Kitt as judges, meow!

Hey Aussies, have you seen

Hey Aussies, have you seen the new ANZ ad? They show a bunch of robots answering their helpline calls. There is a Dalek and Robby the Robot, but there is this one in the front with a female voice that I can't seem to place. Anyone out there know what I'm talking about? I know I'm going to kick myself when I find out what robot it is, but at this point I'm just stumped....

anyone?

So we got up this

So we got up this morning in did something we haven't done in a long time We went to the gym. We kinda got out of the habit when I went back to school and switched jobs. But Rob's been bitchin' about his weight (I know, I know, he's nuts) and I'm sick of hearing about it, so bada-bing-bada-boom we have a 10 pass to the gym and a commitment to each other that we are going to go on a regular basis. I must admit I'm feelin' a bit stiff (mostly in my forearms, which means I'm over-gripping) and I have one really sore toe (very tight climbing shoes) but overall I'm feeling pretty good.

We shall see how I'm feeling tomorrow.....

Ok, so I have this habit of making up little saying (or stealing them from others) and using them over and over and over. They are like my little pearls of wisdom that keep me centered and focused. I thought I might start cataloging them. So here's the first....

Expect the best but prepare for the worst.

This one help SO MUCH in the children's library...you have NO IDEA....

So if you want to check out any future 'gadgetgirlisms' click on 'user info' and then the little heart (aka memories).

Does anyone know how to

Does anyone know how to reknit an old sweater (aka jumper)?
I found this really great Country Road 100% wool sweater at a thrift store over the weekend but it is really long. I just want to shorten it. At this point I figure I'll just pick up the stitches just above where I want it to end, unravel it below that point, recycle the wool, and I guess then just put the picked up stitches onto some needles and knit a few rows.
Does that sound right? Has anyone out there done it before?

Everyone keeps giving me shit

Everyone keeps giving me shit because I have been talking about this paralysed guy who had an implant in his brain so he can turn his Tv off and on. (among other things)  Rob asked me if I heard about it on April 1st. (ha ha very funny.) And one of the guys at work said, 'oh, that's impossible, don't believe everything you see on the internet'. Well is the BBC a reputable enough source for ya? How about CNN? Or maybe Dateline Alabama is more your speed....BAH!

Anyway, I find this story fascinating and I can't wait to hear more about it. I mean think about it, this could do for paralised people what the Cochlear Implant did for many deaf people. this could change the game. wow.

knitting envy

I would really like to knit this top (NOT the matching poncho mind your) but a few things are standing in my way:

1. the yarn had been discontinued

2. the pattern book is out of print (oh, but I can buy it for like $95! Yikes, I don't want to make it THAT badly)

3. The pattern is in French.

Maybe I'll just save a copy of the picture and try my hand at designing a pattern myself. hmmm......(beautifully knitted by Fluffa!)

Oh and while we are talking knitting, Teva at Loop-d-Loop has finally put up a proper shop so you too can knit her cool as hell designs. Go forth and covet! (oh, and Kris, she does wholesale...just so ya know...)
