Balloons always end in tears.
Think about it. They pop, float away, defalte. There is never a good outcome. (Now, I must admit that I did not make up this one, I heard it from a workmate years and years ago, but I do use it a lot. I don't want to be accused of falsely laying claim to a phrase....)
