The standouts were the 'Tuna and Hiramasa Kingfish Sashimi With Rice and Pickled Cucumber Salad with Modern Sashimi Dressing' (that was my FAVOURITE!), 'Spring Bay Scallops with Sweet Corn Crepe with Fragrant Lemongrass and Mussel Butter' and the 'Warm Rhubarb, Raspberry and Praline Pudding with Vanilla Sauce'. Oh, and Neil Perry can sure design a great sauce. Rob also gave the latest Neil Perry book for my birthday. pretty swish really. And we were actually quite full when we left. Not what I expected from a fine dining estabilishment. Satisfied yes, full no. It has been a great birthday really. More pics of my birthday prezzies to come....

MIA
Sorry I've been a little MIA lately. I've picked up another class so I have even less free time. But that's cool, I'm inching towards my goal.
This weekend is my birthday. I can't believe it. What a year it has been. New job, the final Star Wars flick, the whole SnB Nation thing whoa.... But more importantly, guess what I'm doing for my birthday? The love of my life is taking me to Rockpool for a fancy-schmancy dinner. (That means we will have been to two of the three Australian restaurants on this list, we might need to go to Melbourne for our anniversary...well, there or Bray, Berks, England.) But I know to some Sydneysiders Rockpool might seem a little, well, passe, it has been around forever and a day, and Neil Perry, is a but up himself, but we all know the food is meant to rock. I'll let ya know.
But just in case you are looking for that last minute gift for yours truly, here's an idea for ya.... And just as I typed that line the Ipod ad with the new Gorillaz song on it came on, I wonder where I could go rollerskating...hmmm....(Link from Tankboy, who is cooler than you)

unhappy birthday?
Damn, tuesday was Trent Reznor's 40th birthday and I forgot to send him a card. Let me just say that again. The first pin-up boy of industrial music is 40! Man, I don't feel so bad about 35....

lots o' love
Lots of love and happiness goes out to two of my most favourite couples in the world.
See, my grandparents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Can you believe that? SIXTY YEARS! Wow, that is an amazing amount of time. When they got married bread cost $.09 a loaf, a new car cost $1,250 and the average income was $2,807/yr (all in USD). Things are a little more expansive these days, but they are still truckin' along. I wish I could be there for this big milestone, but I'm sure they know they are in my heart. (plus, I sent a card....I hope they get it this week)
And a big shout out (wow, look at me gettin' all ghetto) goes out my brother and sis-in-law on their big 3 year anniversary. When they got married, well, a two bedroom walk-up in their neighborhood cost $500K, now they cost like $650K.How times change. Jim and Amy are the coolest couple I know, and I am so honoured to be related to them.
Now that you are feeling all warm and fuzzy, your kitty moment of zen (or some of the The Hoff for ya instead)

But, I am SO glad we saw it on the first night. I really liked it a lot. I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5. R2D2 was too funny, Yoda kicked some serious ass, the costumes were great, the action was full on and Anakin's transformation was intense (and a little sexy...) Now ok, yes, the 'romance' (and I put that in quotes because Lucas should just avoid doing and romance scenes in the future. They just come out way too wooden) scenes should have been left on the digital cutting room floor. And yes, Lucas is about as subtle as a sledgehammer when it comes to tying the films together. But hey, if you want a beautifully tender romance flick then go to a French film festival.
So now we are sitting here watching the original Star Wars just seeing how it all ties together. Very interesting.

OK, so I had a look at those Chicago SnB buttons again and I thought they were those cool little ones but they are the big kind...I'm kinda rethinkin' this whole thing. What do you think? Would you wear one of those bigger buttons?

Star Wars Sick Out
You COULD be like one of these whimps who chuck a sickie after going to the midnight showing of SWIII or you could just suck it up and drink a bucket of Coke (I will be in the latter group, so there!).

friday the 13th
It hasn't been a good week. There has been a lot of stress at work. And just for the record, I'm just sick and tired of these tight-ass bitches complaining about owing like a buck five for some Lynda LaPlante crap they forgot was a week over due. Just cough up the cash, drive your BMW back to your $1.5M home and shut your cake hole, mk?
Ug, I hate it when I get like this.....moving on....
I was planning on vegging out in front of the telly tonight but my viewing choices are American Idol (will someone just smack Miss Country Barbie please) and the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (not as indie as it sounds, I assure you). Some day when you are older I'll explain why I hate bagpipes so much. Let's just say it involved a hangover that would stop an elephant and an early wake-up call. But, yeah, when planning my funeral, the bagpipes are out. (Rob is fully aware of this) Now I'm just waiting for my love to get off a business call so we can watch the retro TV version of Hitchhikers that I checked out of the library today (cheeze factor 500+!). Yes Kris, we still want to see the flick, we'll talk.
But hey, by mentioning the current knitting scandal I have had a spike in hits, so 'Hidee-ho' to any newcomers.

gadgetgirlism #4
Balloons always end in tears.
Think about it. They pop, float away, defalte. There is never a good outcome. (Now, I must admit that I did not make up this one, I heard it from a workmate years and years ago, but I do use it a lot. I don't want to be accused of falsely laying claim to a phrase....)

Ok, Sydney Knitters, I'm sure you
Ok, Sydney Knitters, I'm sure you know about the Stitch And Bitch controversy that is going on between the Chicago SnB (aka the underdog) and Sew Fast Sew Easy (aka the evil empire). And so I got to thinkin' about how to support the Chicago group and I thought I might order some buttons from them through cafe press. I really like the skull logo (it seems appropriate at the moment) and am wondering if I got a 10 pack would anyone want one or two? (and maybe split the costs...) Just let me know.
Oh and just another jab at the freaks at Sew Fast. If you google 'Stitch and Bitch' see what comes up first. (hint: it's NOT SFSE! So there)

One of the drawbacks of
One of the drawbacks of working at my library is that I never know what today is, but I know what three weeks from today it. See, we give a three week loan period on books and CDs and we stamp the books with the due date. So, all day today I was stamping 29 May 05. That just happens to be by birthday.
It is exactly three weeks until my 35th birthday.
There, I said it. It is out there like a wart on my finger. I think the only reason why this birthday bothers me is that by being 35 I will jump into the next age bracket. You know how when you fill out a questionaire and they ask you your age the groups tend to go 18-25, 25-34, 35-45. I am now clumped into that older bracket....hmmm...I don't really like that.....
But I'm in good company. Tori Amos is 42. Forty-frikin'-Two! And still sexy as hell. All is not lost.
