yet more knitting, and a question
This is a practice hat for my pregnant cousin. (ok not for her, but for the baby-to-be) I sort of just knitted it till it looked ok then decended at the top using the 'umbilical cord' pattern from the first Stitch and Bitch book. She's due in December and I figure she will need a few hats to keep the little guy warm and they should be a few sizes because babies grow pretty quick.
But my question is, how big is a newborn baby's head?
Is it like grapefruit sized or more teapot sized? Or is it bigger? Let's assume that she will have a normal sized baby. What I'd like to do is send her a set of hats that gradually get bigger, ya know?

Medium to large grapefruit. I'm going by the average size of my nieces and nephews heads at birth.

My neices had large grapefruit sized heads at birth, but both received comments on how big their heads were, so I'd guess medium grapefruit would be the norm :)

cool. I've been knitting preemie caps at work and they have heads that are like fist sized so I a little confused. The hat I knitted will definately fit a medium to large grapefruit.
