What I did on my summer vacation

Hey all!
We're back from our trek to the top of Australia. We had a great time.
I've been thinking about how to sum up what we did, saw and ate so it might take me a while to get that all together. But until then here is a shot of the trial leading to the top of Mt. Kosciusko. And yes, we did see snow.

To the Top

merry christmas

merry christmas, originally uploaded by yankinoz.

Sparky wants you to have a Merry Christmas.
Either that or he wants to rip your left ear.

And just in case you are bored on Christmas morning, you can go off and pimp your nutcracker. whoo-hoo

clever trever

Last night wandered over to the Annandale Hotel to see Gerling's annual Christmas show.
As the crowd started to file in Rob said, "Jeez, Wolfmother gets one hit and everyone in Sydney gets a f*ckin' afro."
good one babe.

get this

I just got a call from Rodd and Kris who are on their way to Dubbo Zoo for a little holiday and, well, things have changed a wee bit.
It seems there is a murderer hiding out in the zoo.
A friggin' murderer!
Can you believe it? Isn't that just nuts. They are continuing on hoping to find a hotel somewhere out there and maybe the park will reopen tomorrow...
Well, I guess the moral of the story is that you have to be flexible when planning a holiday.

meow

I was having trouble sleeping last night.

Maybe it was the 5 1/2 kilos of purring fur curled up in my arm pit.
I got to thinking about how I hardly ever call my cat by his actual name Maybe it's because we didn't name him, we adopted Sparky as an adult cat and he came prenamed.
Some of his nick names include Kitty-Boo, Boo, Sparks, Sparkly Kitty Boy, Sparkle and Shine, Fat Boy, Kitty Face, Sir Fur-A-Lot and my personal favourite: Bad Kitty Burrito.

buzz

ooh, the silly season is in full swing. It has been party, party, party all week. And I am up at the crack of dawn today to go to the library Kris Kringle breakfast. It is always a lavish feast. I will say one thing about libarians, they eat well. whoda thunk?

For the first time in my adult life I am taking time off at Christmas. Rob and I are going down to Mt Kosciusko to do some bushwalking and relaxing. We plan to climb Mt. Kosciusko, which is the highest peak in Australia, so next week we will be able to say we've been to the top of bottom of the world... Most people go down there during winter to ski, but since we don't ski, we are making the summer trek. The one thing everyone has been warning us about are the flies...yes...flies. Apparently in the summer the flies can be pretty bad down there. So we went out and got these net things that you attach to your hat. They basically make you look like a beekeeper. We'll see if we need them.

Oh, and if you are reading this thinking, 'ah, Mr and Mrs gg will be away so we will go and clean them out' Think again buster! You will have to deal with our attack cat! He is 5 1/2 kilos of teeth, fur and claws. (oh, and he will have a sitter)

more later

(but unlike Kris' destination, Thredbo does not get ungodly hot this time of year, whew)

stop the presses!

PEACE AT SYDNEY BEACHES!

Do you think that story will make the CNN feed? Or that over 900 Sydneysiders went to a peace rally today, protesting the recent events. Will that make the international news?

Of course not, peace just ain't that sexy.

pucker up buttercup

Don't you hate it when you are having a perfectly nice week then someone you work with makes one snide comment and all that good cheer goes right out the window?
she-who-hates-the-children's-library can just kiss my lily white ass! (if you happen to be one of my collegues, you know the person I'm talking about)

let's see if I get DOoced over this one...

yarn and more

yarn, originally uploaded by gadgetgirl.

Yesterday after work I popped into the Mosman Village Art & Craft Market. It happens every month just outside of where I work, but I'm never working at the times when it is on (saturdays) so I always miss it. But for Christmas the run it on thursdays so I just had to go.
As it turns out Lisa G has a stall. Sydney knitters will know that name, she is a local knitter/crafty/business lady who sells beautiful yarns and needles. We had a good ole chat and she told me about an SnB at a North Sydney pub (yeah pub knitting!) and that she has a blog. very cool.
Oh, and I picked up some of her beautiful yarn. hmmm, what to knit, what to knit...

more gift idea

I just ordered Jess Hutch's self published booklet Unusual Toys for You to Knit and Enjoy for myself. How cute is it?
It could make a great last minute Christmas gift for any knitter on your list. (unless I am the knitter on your list)
Go forth and support self publishing!

Spot the band name

Spot the band name, originally uploaded by dreadfuldan.

This is a really cool ad from, gulp, Virgin. I know, I know, they are the enemy and all, but hey, it's a good ad. Supposedly there are 72 band names in the picture.. (click on the pic if you want the answers) Here is the original, with a magnifying glass to help see the little things :) (thanks dan!)

cute or creepy?

Do you think that Sparky would mind if I got him this for Chirstmas? I better not, I don't want to have a cat with gender issues....can you imagine?

pimped!

69614005_502c9dadc1_m[1] I pimped my new laptop.

Basically I wanted to give the new laptop an 'old school' look. I went to a motorcycle shop and bought some vinyl decals for about $10, cleaned the cover with some windex and slapped them on. easy-peasy.
Note the placement, my laptop is so fast flames come out of the vents! ooooooo

Nothin' like a good flame job to match my new red hair. (not that you can tell that it is red in the photo, but I assure you, it is red.)
