whoda thunk?

Last week, while I was in Melbourne, I was riding in the lift with my drummer friend chatting away when this couple got into the lift with us.
The lady of the couple started to stare at me. I thought it might be the American accent...I get that a lot in Sydney.

Anyway, we keep chatting and the lady of the couple interrupts and says, 'excuse me, do you work at such and such library?'* She bloody recognised me from my work!

Here I am riding with a Grammy nominated drummer and I'm the one who gets noticed.
It was just nuts!

-gg (aka the library rock star!)

*no, I'm not going to say which library I work for, sorry.

more later

I'm off for my big weekend away in about an hour. I'm flying with Virgin Blue for the first time. Fingers crossed...I've never flown with them..and I generally don't like cheaper airlines, but its cool.
And I'm pretty happy to be getting the chance hanging out with my buddy in Melbourne, and getting to see his band play a few hundred times. (yes Mom, I've packed my ear plugs)
So be good while I'm gone, no keggers!

OK, so we are off to BDO in a little bit. There's really only about 2 bands I'm excited about seeing, so I'm really glad we aren't paying for tix! But Magic Dirt and Gerling should be good. We plan to play 'punch-fro' (kinda like punch buggy when you see a volkswagon but with an afro instead.) Thanks Wolfmother!!!

well, I gotta split. Rob's waiting....

Could the Animaniacs series be far behind?

melbourne question

there is a slight chance (very slight) that I could be off to Melbourne this weekend. (fri, sat, sun).
Any thoughts about things I should check out? (besides Genki!). I've been to Melbourne once before so I've seen some of the bigger touristy things, I don't feel the need to hike over to Luna Park.

Oh, and is anyone going to BDO in Sydney or Melbourne?

ok, I'm joining Team Australia (aka Kris and Crumpet) in the Knitting Olympics. (conceived by the ever popular and slightly insane Yarn Harlot)
I'll have to decide on a project that is a challenge but one that I can complete in the 16 days that the winter Olympics are going on.
hmmmm....I think I'll have to have a good look through my knitting books. I have 19 days to get my head around this.

cats away

Rob is currently in Tokyo and I'm up to no good.
I brought home a British comedy DVD that I know Rob doesn't like to watch while he's away. And I sat up until like 2am reading last night because I'm so used to having him next to me telling me to turn out the light. (I'm reading 'What Fresh Hell is This', the bio of Dorothy Parker. very good so far). And I always end up eating dinner at like 8:30 at night when he's away. I just forget to eat. I've got some pumpkin ravioli on at the moment, it should be ready soon.
So my night will consist of web sudoku, dry humour and a bit more James Squire pale ale.
(and missing my hubby)

I'm really pathetic

In about an hour a cab is coming to pick up my husband to take him to the airport where he will get on a plane and fly to Tokyo.
It's a work thing, he'll be back on Sunday.
But I will miss him.
a lot.....
anyone wanna go see a movie?

I'm just sayin'

I just thought I would mention that I tried Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion. I did not get a 'holiday glow', just a tanish streak down my left leg that took a few days to fade away.
oh well, back to porcelain skin

don't watch this ad

OK, the 26th of January is Australia Day and there is this ad that is running here that equates eating lamb with being Australian.
Now I don't eat lamb, I actually find it quite disgusting.
But this ad is too funny. Don't take it seriously, it is VERY tongue in cheek. Oh, and if you are a vegetarian, you might find it a little offensive...actually most people will find it offensive in one way or another, but that's what makes it funny.

Check it out for yourself.
But don't come running to me if you get cheezed off, I warned you.

ooh, technology

iPod jeans? Interesting idea but how about some ear buds that don't suck. No, really, I would like to see some clothes that are more technology friendly.
Yes, this could get very interesting.

toot

PictureAustralia is using one of photos on their web site!

Ok, so what is PictureAustralia anyway? 'PictureAustralia is an Internet based service that allows you to search many significant online pictorial collections at the same time.' (from their site)
Basically it's a database of Aussie related photos in libraries, museums, galleries, archives, universities and other cultural agencies, in Australia and abroad. AND it is put together by the National Library of Australia...geeky but cool. Very cool.

'better busy than bored'

I get bored very easily (aka short attention span) so I like to keep myself busy. I say this at work all the time when it is really busy, mostly because I like a fast pace.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the controversy concerning 'A Million Little Pieces'. Yeah, I read it, it was pretty good. But does it matter that he took some artistic licence? I don't know.

twisted

Jamie Oliver's show 'Oliver Twist' is playing on channel 10 at the moment. It has become our after dinner watching. (I LOVE his kitchen)
But anyway, we have come up with (drum roll please)

The Jamie Oliver Drinking Game
The rules are as follows:

When uses a citrus fruit, drink once.
When Jamie says 'literally' or 'basically', drink once.
But is Jamie uses the term 'literally' properly, scull your drink.

Have a big ole beer ready to go if you play this one.
Good luck.

separated at birth?

Life: Acting Australian PM Mark Vaile conducting business from the drivers seat of a tractor.

Art: Simpsons episode Bart vs. Australia Remember when Bart wouldn't pay his phone bill to Australia and the big Aussie bloke said, "This is an outrage! I'm going to take this all the way to the Prime Minister! (yells out the window) Hey Prime Minister!" And I do believe that the Prime Minister was on, yes, a tractor.

05/06

So January rolls around and a young girl's mind turns to New Year's resolutions. I, like TOA, tend to not make them. But I do like to think a little about where I have been and where I am going.

So let's see what have I been up to this year?

-turned 35
-learned to play backgammon
-got my Aussie passport
-became a calendar girl
-became an official Sydney Photoblogger
-went to Rockpool AND Tetsuya's
-got Boing Boinged
-hiked to the top of Mt. Kosciusco.
Whew, what a year.

As for 2006, well, OK, I'll give in and make a 'to do list'

-continue eating well and try to drink less alcohol
-take a trip overseas...or at least to Melbourne
-finish school...or at least know exactly when I will be finishing!
-write more and take more pictures (I really need to nail this one down more....hmmm...)
-continue saving money to buy property
-get my motorcycle licence
-more WIPS
-find a hairdresser (one that is reasonably affordable that is near my home)

that should do it.

simple request

OK, I have one for you.
If anyone out there in Internetland can come up with a way to move a scroll bar on a smart-phone (i-mate jam to be exact) from the left side to the right side of the screen I will pay you handsomely.

The left-handed community will also give you a very fancy cape and bejeweled crown. We are a very generous group.

I had the same problem with my Palm, but I just suffered through. You'd think this would just be a software issue and I have a hard time believing all smart-phone programmers are right-handed. Those of us who are left-handed end up covering up the screen with our left hand when we go to use the scroll bar on the right hand side. Try it.

hot and sad

It is like 45C (113F) at the moment.
I am watching a documentary about The Hoff.
It is too hot to change the channel.
But as hot as I am, think of my poor furry kitty
He is miserable.
