BRAINS!!!!
Rob and I headed into the city today to watch the Sydney Zombie Lurch.
It was pretty much what I expected. Mostly goth kids wanting to shock, but there were a few people who really put a lot of effort in. One guy had a full sized spear 'through' him, a a Thriller Michael Jackson and a bride or two
My favourite part was when everyone started chanting, 'What to we want? Brains! When do we want them? Brains!'
There are some amazing shots over on Flickr. Here are mine, Rob's, Wiredjazz's, trythis' and Robbie Gates' photos.
I'm sure there will be more photos out popping up over the next few days. There seemed to be as many photographers as zombies.
It was a good ole time.

gone Bush
Anti Bush stickers. Some of them are pretty darn funny. I particularly like this one, this one, this one and this one.
I'm not sure what to make of all of the 'against Bush' stickers. They get, um, well, a little specialized. Beekeepers against Bush? Furries against Bush? Storm Chasers against Bush?
Lets hope we wont need them for much longer.

crafty goodness
Hmmm, I wonder if I can afford one more magazine from the US. Maybe I'll wait until it comes out and see how good it is. But considering Jess Hutch's work is on the first cover, things look promising.

kitty advice
Kris, seriously, give this a go.
It worked like a charm with our boy. And I think your kitty might need a little love after the invasion of the little person.

shake shake shake
So, what did you get up to this weekend?
Me? Oh, I did the laundry, caught up with Kris and her visiting family, made some cupcakes, finished some homework and did some pole dancing.
No really, Saturday night I we went out to celebrate a friend's upcoming nuptials by learning how to spin, twist and shake our money makers.
Don't worry, there is no video and no, I don't think any of us are planning a big career shift anytime soon, but is was good fun.
And educational.
Did you know that those stripper poles actually spin? Neither did I!
And did you know there is a right way and a wrong way to take off a g-string? Who knew?
But if you are brave enough to check out the photos, here are Kate's and here are mine.
Good fun was had by all. There was lots of laughing, silly faces and more than a few bruises. Yeah, my abs are pretty damn sore today.
But if you are interested in slightly cleaner entertainment and have a spare 12 minutes and 54 seconds, check out these truly amazing machines. Be sure you have the sound on.

(ok, I thought I should mention Pole Play, the organization that puts on the pole dancing nights. Emmanuelle, the woman who taught us was just lovely, very professional and positive. It was a really fun night, not the least bit trashy. And it was a surpisingly tough work out. go fig.)

I've been watching this kitty drinking fountain on eBay. (yeah, he's spoiled, I know) But then when I opened up the MAKE blog today I saw a DIY version. If I do get a chance to make it I'm going to have to, um, pretty it up a little bit. I wonder if I still have an old aquarium pump in our garage somewhere...
Hey Kris, you KNOW you want to make this turducken with your left over chocolate....tee-hee!

Hair update: I coloured my hair this morning and it looks a million times better. Once it grows about a inch or two I think I'll like it more.

something new every day
This week we had a performer from Ghana at the Library.
He did this whole drumming/dancing show and yes the kids loved it.
But the part that I found really interesting was when he told us about how kids are named in Ghana. Apparently kids are named after the day of the week that they are born on. If a girl is born on Monday her name is Adjoa and a Monday boy is Kojo. Here is a list of the names for each day. (you'll have to scroll down a bit)
But what is really interesting is that a boy born on friday is named Kofi, like Kofi Annan.
Call me dorky but if I ever get to meet Kofi Annan I'm going to say, 'Hey, you were born on a Friday!'
Yes, I'm a geek.

(I'll have to remember to ask my Mom what day of the week I was born on)

I've been wasting time this morning over at Whip Up. I am so in love with it at the moment. They are having a competition at the moment called Whiplash. Basically you post something that you have created that was inspired by something from their site. This might be just the thing to get my stagnant creative juices flowing. Here's a few things that I am inspired by: one cute skirt, kick-ass pinchshions (and this one) and how can I go past the knitted yoda?!?!

a bit of perspective
Shit day.
Bad haircut.
Rob's phone is broken.
School is suckin'.
Ate too much chocolate.
But you know what? It does not matter.
Even a little bit.
One of Rob's colleague's found out today that her father passed away. And because of the holiday weekend she can't get a flight back to the Philippines. Not that they are too expensive, there just aren't ANY seats to buy, at all.
I so feel for her. It is very hard to be far away from your family at times like these. It makes those miles feel SO much further.
I hope she gets through this OK and can get home to her family soon.
Spare a thought and put her in your prayers.

to do
So we are going to the US in like 7 weeks or something and we have already started a 'to do' list.
Don't get me wrong, first things first, we want to spend lots of time with our friends and family. More than I can say.
But we also have some stuff we want to do. And ya know what...most of it involves food.
Sad but true.
I'm pretty stoked about having some proper Chicago pizza, lots of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, maybe a little Taco Bell (I know, I know), some Florida orange juice and maybe a Leinenkugel beer...or three.
Jeez, I'm going to put on like 5 kilos while we are there.
Now, to start the DVD/CD list...Then onto the clothes/shoes...

hey ya'll
If been flat out like a lizard drink' for the last couple of weeks. I feel like I've been ignoring my poor little blog.
So until I have some time to write an actual post, here are some fun things I've come across recently:
Cheap silk screen tutorial. I really want to give this one a go.
Groovie pinhole camera. Just in case anyone is doing a little *cough* birthday shopping *cough*
State charm necklace. Kris is gonna love this one! It is too cool.
Free wrap skirt pattern! Yes FREE! (here's another one)
Optical illusions. I love the coffee one. it freaks me right out!
Monthy photo scavenger hunt. My latest obsession.
For a while now I have been jokingly calling Sparky 'fat boy'. Not in a mean way, just because he's a big cat. Well, when we took him to the vet I got confirmation that his name actually, well, sort of fits him. He is up to 6.5 kilos (that's over 14 pounds in the old currency). But to put this into a little bit of perspective, he's only gained .4 of a kilo in the last year.
Yes, he's a big ole cat!
