cool gal, originally uploaded by gadgetgirl.

The 50's fair at the Rose Seidler house was a blast. There were so many cool cats and groovin' gals. There were so much amazing stuff to photograph and the weather was just perfect.
The we spent a wonderful afternoon with good friends at Kate's place (and Rob got some chiropractic work done...)

Food, sunlight, photos, drinkies, good friends.
What more can a girl ask for?

movin' on up

So first is was his turn, now it's mine.

As of next week I am moving from the children's department to taking care of the teen area (plus about 100+ other new responsibilities). I must admit I'm pretty damn nervous. Teens are notoriously, well, uninterested in libraries (to put it lightly). And yeah, I'll miss some of the little kiddies, but it's a pretty huge promotion so I'm stoked. I'm going to get lots of training and will be doing some things that have been previously reserved for more senior library staff.

Oh, and maybe not dealing with so many snot-nosed kiddies will help me with #6 on my birthday list.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me......

ec, I'll try to do you proud :)

I thought I might share a few thinigs my Mom has recently sent to me:

Hooks for Talk like A Pirate Day, a story about how The magic world of 'OZ' was named after the alphabetical letters O - Z on the bottom drawer of L. Frank Baum's file cabinet, oh, and you know about the cats that look like Hitler page....
See where I get it?

This post should bump up my stats

Hot Library Smut

But really, it's bunch of shots of amazing European libraries or 'full-frontal objectification of the library itself'. All from a beautiful photography book titled Libraries by Candida Höfer

I love the shot of the shot of the library in Amsterdam. And I seem to remember hearing on the net that the library at Trintiy College Dublin inspired the Jedi Archives in Attack of the Clones. But I'm sure that's just rumour.
Man, Aussie libraries are boring....

(ok, I'm not sure if this site is breaking copyright by posting all of these photos, but it sure makes me want to run out and buy the book!)

A funny thing happened....

Yesterday afternoon we were enjoying unseasonably warm weather, so Rob and I grabbed our cameras and went for a walk around the neighbourhood.
When we were coming up on the local library I noticed that there was some strange stuff going on with the fencing.

I stepped back a little and saw birds.

Someone has taken long strips of fabric and woven it through the fencing to create outlines of indigenous birds. Some of the birds include a king parrot, what I think is an egret and fairy wren. The fairy wren is my favourite I think. And I must admit I had to come home and look up the birds in a bird book....

It was really amazing and kinda strange. But I can't help thinking who made them? Why did they do it? And why put them near the train station at Artarmon? They have obviously been there for a while because the fabric is looking quite faded.

If you live on the North Shore it's worth checking out.

Has anyone else seen these in Sydney?

lists, photos and glitter

I'm well on my way to getting through my birthday list. (with a little help from my friends...)

I went with Kris, Rodd, Andrew and Morgan to Hedwig and the Angry Inch last night. Top night, top show. Lots of rock and roll, wigs and glitter. What more could a girl ask for?

Oh, and I broke into the top 10 in flickr explore with the previously blogged Kira photo, I was only there for a little while, but that's one I can tick off my list, all Earl-like.

ya gotta love a good flickr toy:

three things

1. How soon we forget.

2. Finally, useful origami (but why is the Bounce in the kitchen?)

3. Now don't get me wrong, I love my cat. A lot! And the Kattbank is probably the most brilliant kitty litter box I have ever seen. But for Pete's sake, I think it costs more than my first car!

how lame am I?

I only just figured out tonight what the song 'Turning Japanese' was about.

Really.

On a completely unrelated note, when I was driving home tonight I saw someone with a bumper sticker that read, 'I drink rum because I can't spell bourben'.
But then again they had another sticker that read 'I love my bull bar and I vote'.
hmm.

So last night was Census night.
Once every 5 years Australia comes together to sit around answering questions about how much they make and how they pray.
But they didn't ask anything about pets (we really considered answering for him...) and they didn't allow 'motorcycles' as an answer for how you travel to work. WTF? Doesn't the government consider a motorcycles an acceptable way to travel? Please.

We should have put down Jedi as out religion. Bugger.

The World's Craziest Statues.
The first one is pretty stupid, but some of the other ones are kinda freaky. The face coming out of the water is interesting but the upside down La Trobe one is friggin' awesome.
I really hope there isn't any photoshop going on here.

confession time

So I was shelving at work the other day and I overheard this little boy singing to himself. He would have been maybe 4 or 5 and he was playing with our toy train just having a good time.
As I continued shelving I realized I knew the song he was singing. It took me a couple of minutes but it came to me. It was a song by the Veronicas, a pretty trashy prepubescent Aussie pop duo.

Then I had a thought, what the hell is a 4 or 5 year old boy doing singing 'tell me what do you do when it all falls apart'?!?!?
but then....

Another horble thought. What's worse? The fact that this kid was singing this cheezy pop song or the fact that I KNEW the song.

sad, I know.

ok, ok, ok, get this.
You get a photo of yourself, upload it on My Heritage and they tell you what glam celeb you look like. It's kinda like egosurfing, but with famous people.

Apparently I'm the love child of Meg Ryan, some chick from Lost and Sylvester Stallone.
go fig.

But I must admit I'm finding it a little addicting....and I've started uploading photos of other people....eek!
