Sparky update....and then some....

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and lovely emails. Sparky is home and doing well. He's on a 'special diet' (but not a 'short bus' kinda special) diet at the moment. He has to go back to the vet on Satuday to have his urine tested (doesn't THAT sound like a fun morning?!?!) for crystals. If he is doing well then he goes on a 'maintenance diet'.

But the funny thing about this whole experience is that the vet has given us a stash of 'kitty Valium'.

Seriously.

The only reason we have it is because he get himself worked into such a state when we have to take him in the C-A-R that by the time we have taken the 4 minute drive to the vet's office, he's drooling, pooing, vomiting, howling....well, you get the picture. So the vet says that the Valium will 'take the edge off' and he shouldn't get so stressed. I'll let you know on Saturday.

But just to keep everything fair and balanced here at Casa Del GG and to give the dog world its props, I bring you Señor Pelone. You have to see him for the Mohawk and the tongue.

Oh, Señor, what's going on with your tongue? I just want to tuck it into his mouth. Thank you SOOOO much bro for sharing him with us.

Everybody love Sparky

Look who's the poster boy for the very popular 'I love my cat' flickr pool.
Ain't Sparky purdy? (yes, that's him as the group icon!)

Hopefully this will cheer him up when he gets home.
Thanks Bibi for picking our little fur boy.

sparky

sparky

Our little fur boy is in the kitty hospital tonight.

He has a blocked urethra. Not totally uncommon for boy cats, but still very serious. We caught it early so he should be fine in a couple of days.

But I miss him.

Probably a bit more than I should.

I'm a sook.

Freedom, sweet freedom

I just sent in my LAST ASSIGNMENT to TAFE.

I'm done, I'm done, I'm done!

Oh my gawd, what am I going to do with all this free time? I might read a book or knit something...nah, I'm heading to the pub.

purrrrr

Just in case you are like my husband and didn't know about the tradition of cats living in libraries I bring you the Library Cats Map of the World.

And yes, it includes Australia.

I wonder how my manager would feel about getting a cat for my library....somehow I'm don't see it happening.

I love Spencer Public Library resident cat's job description. (scroll down a little). Good job Dewey.

jaded but topical

OJ tries to cash in on his ex-wife's murder?
Yeah, well I figured he'd try to do it at some point

Fox picks up it up and runs with it?
Yeah, well I knew they'd jump at the chance.

Fox has a change of heart and drops the whole project?
*faint*

I've been feeling like crap all weekend.
It's been panadol and apple juice cocktails for me.

Let's hope it's just an allergy thing.

Or maybe I just need a beer
;)

whoo-hoo, party at my place

Well in case you didn't get the memo, today is national 'Buy a gun day' here in Australia.

Yes, Buy a gun day
In Australia.

So come on everyone, go out today and pick yourself up a shiny new magnum or maybe an old skool shotgun. oh, wait you CAN'T just run out and buy a gun on a whim in this country. damn those gun laws.
oh well.

And just who has brought this day to the Australian public? The Coalition of Law-Abiding Sport Shooters.
Yes, ladies and germs, they are all C.L.A.S.S.. Ba-da-boom, thank you, I'll be here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress.

But on a serious note, I do believe that adults should have the right to make their own decisions. Get a tattoo, don't get a tattoo. have kids, don't have kids. own a car, don't own a car. But it is hard to argue with the facts:

The total number of criminal incidents involving a firearm in NSW is now about 44 per cent lower than its peak in 1997, according to figures released today by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.

Gun laws changed dramatically in 1997 after the Port Arthur massacre. And since then crimes involving guns has been on a steady decline. 1+1=2. If you want to go out and shoot at clay pigeons, good on ya, I'm sure it does improve eye-hand-coordination. But as for me, I don't really want it to be easy for any ole schmuck to walk down to the local sports shop and pick up a hand gun because he thinks it'll make him cool like Snoop.

But that's just me.

star spotting

Rob and I went to Sculpture by the Sea today (Also known at 'SXS'. I tell ya what, I can't type that without thinking about 'SXSW'. But I digress)
We took in all the pretty sculptures with the masses, in the heat. (jeez, wasn't it hot today?)

But not only that, we did a little star spotting. If you've been watching Jamie's Kitchen Australia, you might recognise this lady:

Lauren Oliver at SXS

That's Lauren Oliver, no relation to Jamie, the director of the Fifteen Foundation. And the Fifteen restaurant has just opened in Melbourne.

We just happen to be going to Melbourne next weekend and I thought, what the hey, I'll see if there are any tables. (I know, I know...)

The ealiest table is available in early March 2007.
uh, ok. Not this trip...

Maybe we'll just go look at it.

three things

1. Clinton scores a slam dunk. Rock on Billy!

2. It would take 142.19 cups of 'brewed imported tea' to kill me

3. Just in case you were unsure how to pronounce 'barbiturate',
here's a handy chart
for ya. It's a really funny list. But I must admit there are a few things on it that I've said....oh, not that I would say them now, oh no, I'm far too sophisticated for that.....

I hate to type this just in case I jinx something.....

but....

as of right now, I never have to go back to TAFE.

EVER
AGAIN

I still have a few weeks left of this semester, but I can email everything else in at this point.

I can't believe it.

I wont get my diploma until next May, but assuming I pass these last two classes, I'm done. Three years it's taken me to get here. But I ain't counting those chickens just yet....

as for now....I'm just going to relax...tomorrow I'll do homework.

kid: Do you have 'Mystery of Miss Pee-Pee'?

me: what?

kid: I'm looking for a Trixie Belden* book called 'Mystery of Miss Pee-Pee'

me: WHAT????

(I walk over to the computer and type in 'Trixie Belden' and 'Mystery' and a list of books come up)

kid (pointing over my shoulder): there 'The Mystery of Miss Pee-Pee'

me: OOOOHHHHHH, 'The Mystery of Mississippi'. I'm with ya now.
