All I can think is that must have been one hell of a rehearsal dinner.
I can remember learning the 'Thriller dance' when I was in 7th grade...but for a wedding? A little on the cheezy side (but then again, I did get married in Vegas)
jeez.

sorry about the shouting....and the brackets....
ABC 2 is rerunning Race Around The World, arguably the ORIGINAL reality TV show. (it ran about a million year before Amazing Race)
Race originally aired on Aussie TV ten, count them TEN, years ago when we first moved to Sydney, and I still love it. (the city and the TV show)
Race introduced Australia to the ever whiny, crazy and insightful John Safran, who to this day still makes me laugh and gets under my skin. (I don't care what the critics say, he's #1 in my books, rock on John!) John has gone on to do Music Jamboree (here are a few clips if you can't play the DVD in your local area, otherwise do yourself a favour and get your ass to JB HiFi and drop the $30, mk?)
So it you have ABC 2 and are in Sydney, dammit, turn on Race Around The World! It's a bit of Aussie TV history.
I mean really, where else can you see someone place an actual voodoo curse on their ex girlfriend?
Where I ask you?!?!?!?
-gg (who has had a beer or two and realized tonight that the TV that she watched when she first moved to Sydney is officially retro)

Open Letter
Dear Inner West Home Sellers,
I know the appeal of installing a brand spanking new IKEA kitchen just before you put your home on the market.
I know it seems like a good idea.
But hey, listen, it just makes your house look cheap.
Especially when you leave the IKEA stickers on the cupboard doors.
Thanks for listening.

Riddle me this
Yo get ready for tomorrow night's Opera in the Domain, I thought I'd throw out to the class the three questions from Turandot:
what is born each night and dies each dawn?what flickers red and warm like a flame, yet is not fire?
what is like ice but burns?
Now don't forget if you get one wrong then OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!
Let's just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow night....

We're number 7! We're number 7!
I don't know why they needed to do this big fancy study to tell us that Sydney has unaffordable housing. All they had to do was to look at how much a unit costs on the North Shore.
And this comes just in time for us. We are going to talk to the bank TODAY about getting a mortgage.
There ya go.

You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. As a child, my number one best friend was the librarian in my grade school. I actually believed all those books belonged to her.

The world is a much more boring place without ya.
RAW had a very interesting outlook on his impending passing.
Check out his last blog post:
Various medical authorities swarm in and out of here predicting I have between two days and two months to live. I think they are guessing. I remain cheerful and unimpressed. I look forward without dogmatic optimism but without dread. I love you all and I deeply implore you to keep the lasagna flying. Please pardon my levity, I don't see how to take death seriously. It seems absurd.
RAW
And why hasn't the mainstream media picked up on this? Oh, wait, they don't read stuff like the The Illuminatus! Trilogy....but maybe it's just me.
One of my favourite quotes from RAW is "Cynics regarded everybody as equally corrupt... Idealists regarded everybody as equally corrupt, except themselves."
Aw, you gotta love someone who just cuts right through the bullshit.

Ska
I've been meaning to blog this for a while.
I see this car almost every day on my way to work.
I don't know if they sell this model of car known as a 'Ka' outside Australia, but I just love how this ska fan has made it their very own.
It makes me want to jump up and down. :)
too clever

Goin' bush
We both had the afternoon off so after lunch we went to look at some of the bouldering up at Ku-ring-gai Chase this afternoon (as seen in the Sydney Bouldering Guide) and here's my tip:
If you decide to go climbing at the Chase put on your serious hiking shoes.
Most of the approaches involve a LOT of bushwacking and it might be a good idea to bring a broom to shoo away the spiders off the crag. eek! Maybe it's just because there has been some rain here lately, but there were no proper trails to the climbing areas, just lots of scrub and leaf litter.
But is was beautiful out there anyway, sunny and clear.

APB
Am I the only one who just found out about the whole 'Alan Smithee' thing?
The story goes that up until 1999, if a director didn't want their name attached to a film that they were working on(probably because it smelled like year old gouda!) they would just use the name Alan Smithee instead. Go fig.
Check out this list of films 'directed' by Alan Smithee. Ok, there are some stinkers, but some are ok.

First post of 2007
I found this really awesome site that has a free online photography course. I'm starting it today. I figure I'll get through it in 5 or 6 weeks.
Oh, and I'm bowing out of the 'knit from your stash' challenge. Since I've finished school and now have some time to knit, I just want to catch up on some things I've been wanting to do and finish some UFOs.
Oh, and what did we do for the new year? Not much....
Have a happy New Year!
