The best part on the last Race was when the dickhead boyfriend made the nice girlfriend - WHO ONLY HAS ONE LEG - do the ascender while he watched. That was crazy.

oh no, you don't use anything mechanical to climb up the rope this way. it's all about knots and brute strangth.
the mechanical stuff you speak of (it probably looked a little something a little like this: http://www.chockstone.org/TechTips/Jug.htm) is the EASY way....but can also damamge the rope.
