Changing of the Guard
First the Melbourne Cup and now this.
I still can't believe I backed a winner. That hardly ever happens to me. I tend to vote for people who are not very popular. But Kevin Rudd has beat John Howard. (actually, the Labor Party beat the Liberal Party, but let's not split hairs)
Anyway, here's Australia's newest Prime Minister's six point plan to lead the country into the future:
-Education revolution;
-National plan to fix our hospitals;
-Decisive action on climate change;
-Balance and fairness in the workplace;
-Maintaining our national security; and
-A strong economy that delivers for working families.
How can you argue with that? I think I'll print the list out and post it on my fridge and see how it goes. It's just nice to have a party that is willing to set solid, measurable goals and put them in writing, ya know? They just better stick by them!
But for now I'm going to try to digest this this strange feeling of victory and toy with my newest guilty pleasure; picturing the Howard Family packing their stuff up and getting the hell out of Kirribilli House. (does that make me a sore winner? probably)
Kevin in 07!

I still can't quite believe the Rat Bastard is gone. I've been voting against him my entire adult life, and finally everyone else has agreed with me!

now will the evil reading list be discarded?
Way to change your world, gadgetgirl

I can't believe it either, I've only ever known Australia under John Howard (we've been here for 10 years)
Evil reading list??? But yeah, I'm all for changing the world (or at least my little corner of it)

weren't you complaing last year about some reccemded reading list, that the prime minister put out without thinking about the poor librarians confronted with parents shaking a list demanding the books in spite of the fact that the system was sorely deficient in copies to meet demand? or am i crazy?

yes, yes, yes, I'm with you now, how quickly I forget these things. But it was the Premier's reading list (he's in the state government, not the national stuff) But wow, you have a great memory.
No, you aren't crazy.
