note
Note to self:
When making paprika chicken, don't drip the sauce on your favourite tshirt, it will stain.

timely
Over the weekend I decided to start archiving my digital photos. I wont bore you with the gory details, but lets just while I was staring at a computer screen, waiting, waiting, waiting, I thought I should do something constructive.
So I thought, hey, why not make a new calendar for 2008?!?!
I knew that there was an flickr toy that would make calendars out of your photos for free so I got to it.
First I picked 14 photos I thought would make great photos (I wanted the calendar to start Dec 2007 and end Jan 2009) and dropped them into the create a calendar app. (sooo easy!) Then I saved each month into a folder. This part took a little while, but I did have time to kill.
I then tried to print a couple out onto 200gsm paper (so it would be nice and stiff) but I soon figured out that each calendar page defaulted to 'letter' size, and here in Oz we use A4 size.
Ug.
So I had to take each calendar page and put it onto a Word page and resize before it would print properly. And I figured that since I was doing that, I might as well add some 'inspirational quotes' to the bottom of each month.
Once it was all printed out I took it up to Officeworks and had it spiral bound across the top (which cost like $3 or something). I'm planning on using a bull clip to hang it on a hook in my cubicle at work.
I'm quite happy with the results, I can't wait for December 1 so I can put it up!!!!

If you want to make a calendar for yourself:
Here's the flickr calendar toy thingie, here are a few quote sites, I just love good quotes and just in case you are the one person who doesn't use flickr, now's the time to get signed up, mk?
Here are the photos/quotes I used:
*Dec 07-'Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly'- Robert F. Kennedy
*Jan 08-'Back up my files?! Are you kidding? Is that a real thing you have to do? I always thought that that was just like... you know, a figure of speech.' -Strong Bad
*Feb 08-'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.' - Mahatma Gandhi
*March 08- 'We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.' -Kurt Vonnegut Jr
*April 08- 'The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.' -Mark Twain
*May 08- 'Birthdays are just nature's way of telling us to eat more cake.' - Anonymous
*June 08- 'If you never change your mind, why have one?' - Edward de Bono
* July 08- 'Fate chooses our relatives, we choose our friends.' -Jacques Delille
*Aug 08- 'We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.' -Aristotle
*Sept 08- 'Paths are made by walking' - Franz Kafka
*Oct 08- 'As a rule, men worry more about what they can't see than about what they can.' -Julius Caesar
*Nov 08- 'Play is the highest form of research.' - Albert Einstein
*Dec 08- 'Be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead.' - Scottish proverb
*Jan 09- 'If I had to live my life again, I'd make the same mistakes, only sooner.' -Tallulah Bankhead

Winning Streak
That makes it three for three.
Nat Gauci won Aussie Idol. I know, I know, Idol is lame and all. But she sang Divinyls and Kate Bush, she can't be all bad. Right?
And on the flip side we saw Control today. (after my brother's ringing endorsement). Where did they dig up the guy who played Ian Curtis? He was channeling Ian, it was amazing to watch. And apparently the actors played all of the music themselves. Wow. And I didn't know that Ian Curtis had epilepsy, that explains a lot. It would have been hard, trying to make music, care for a family (I didn't know he had a daughter!) and manage his epilepsy. It's well worth seeing. But know that is is slightly depressing, but it is Joy Division after all.
I wonder what tomorrow will hold. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

Changing of the Guard
First the Melbourne Cup and now this.
I still can't believe I backed a winner. That hardly ever happens to me. I tend to vote for people who are not very popular. But Kevin Rudd has beat John Howard. (actually, the Labor Party beat the Liberal Party, but let's not split hairs)
Anyway, here's Australia's newest Prime Minister's six point plan to lead the country into the future:
-Education revolution;
-National plan to fix our hospitals;
-Decisive action on climate change;
-Balance and fairness in the workplace;
-Maintaining our national security; and
-A strong economy that delivers for working families.
How can you argue with that? I think I'll print the list out and post it on my fridge and see how it goes. It's just nice to have a party that is willing to set solid, measurable goals and put them in writing, ya know? They just better stick by them!
But for now I'm going to try to digest this this strange feeling of victory and toy with my newest guilty pleasure; picturing the Howard Family packing their stuff up and getting the hell out of Kirribilli House. (does that make me a sore winner? probably)
Kevin in 07!

We just got back from voting. And NO we didn't vote for the current Prime Minister's party. So there. (fingers crossed for a change of guard tonight)

Trivial
I went to a trivia night with friends the other night. We tied for second, but then lost on the tie breaker (there were 8 teams) Here are a few of the questions:
-Have Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick ever appeared in a film together?
-What European car companies have these logos: A raging bull, a horse, a lion
-Name the three longest mountain ranges
-Pago Pago is the capitol of what company?
-The ship the Carpathianis famous for what?

Free Rice
So you give me a site that:
1. Tests my knowledge of somewhat obscure words
2. Donates rice to the world's needy as I play
3. Toys with both my pride and generosity by scoring me on #1 and #2 (I'm sitting on 41 on #1 and 400 on #2 at this point...)
And guess what you get?
A morning spent in front of my laptop. eek!
None the less Free Rice is a great site, check it out.
But don't say I didn't warn you.

oh, the craftiness
OK, so this is the coolest thing I've seen on the net in a while.
Reglazed Silhouette Plates
I'm so making some of those. I just love, love, love them. Can't you just see them in some fancy-shmancy shop in Paddington? (Kris, we could make some of these for that wall in your new place....or your robot kitchen....interesting huh?)

Letter to the Universe
Hey there Uni,
On Friday when Dick Smith delivered an extra Wii console to my Library I didn't keep it.
I rang Dick Smith, informed them of the error and organised a courier to come and collect it. The guys at work tried really hard to get me to just shut up and keep it, but I didn't.
And I feel pretty good about that.
Oh, and I got up at 6:30 this morning and went for a run with my husband. I feel good about too.
I just wanted to share the love.
Have a nice weekend

geeky me
ok, ok, ok As we were sitting here watching 'Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader' there was this tiny moth flying around the living room (yes, Sparky was very excited).
The moth was attracted to the light coming from Rob's laptop and flew in to investigate.
Well, the little guy climbed around and went in around between the F11 and F12 keys, he's currently under the delete key.
But you know what this means don't you?
Rob has a bug in his computer. LITERALLY!!!!
lord I need to get a friggin hobby

hello blog
I haven't been in a real bloggy kind of mood lately (as you can tell). Work's been over the top and I've been tired (yeah, blah blah, we all have busy lives)
Anyway, I found this today. Wouldn't it be great for a crafty room? I might just have to bookmark it for when the time is right :)
Unless, that is if Kris doesn't beat me to it (don't worry, I wont be mad if you go)
But in the mean time here's where I have been spending my time.

Winner!
So it's back to real life after spending a couple of weeks hanging around the house and doing a bit of travel.
But it's not all bad, I won $12 on the Melbourne Cup yesterday. I guess I'll have to stop saying that I 'never win anything', eh?
And I'm not the only one who drew Efficient in the office sweeps.
