Winning Streak
That makes it three for three.
Nat Gauci won Aussie Idol. I know, I know, Idol is lame and all. But she sang Divinyls and Kate Bush, she can't be all bad. Right?
And on the flip side we saw Control today. (after my brother's ringing endorsement). Where did they dig up the guy who played Ian Curtis? He was channeling Ian, it was amazing to watch. And apparently the actors played all of the music themselves. Wow. And I didn't know that Ian Curtis had epilepsy, that explains a lot. It would have been hard, trying to make music, care for a family (I didn't know he had a daughter!) and manage his epilepsy. It's well worth seeing. But know that is is slightly depressing, but it is Joy Division after all.
I wonder what tomorrow will hold. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

I just loved that movie! Am I too old to start loving Joy Division? I don't know why I never got into them before -- I would have eaten that stuff up at age 15.
(I was listening to my recently downloaded copy of "Unknown Pleasures" whilst making cranberry relish the other day, and Jim remarked that it was just like hearing you playing records in high school.)

"I don't like hot dogs!"
If you haven't seen 24 Hour Party People yet, you should check that one out as well. Joy Division is a smaller part of the whole story of Factory Records, and the Ian Curtis in there obviously isn't as fully fleshed-out as the Ian Curtis in Control, but it's still a great film about the Manchester music scene.

Oh, one more Joy Division thing: Sound Opinions, the rock-n-roll talk show that used to be on XRT but is now on Chicago Public Radio, did a special show a few weeks ago about the movie and Joy Division. Probably not a lot in it that the average Joy Division fan doesn't know, but it's good to hear an appreciation of the band by two knowledgeable rock music critics.

Cool, I'll have a listen to that. The funny thing about '24 Hour Party People' is that the actor who played Ian Curtis in 'Control' is also in 24HPP but he doesn't play Ian, crazy!
I was loving looking at all of the concert posters in the background in 'Control'. I forgot how many bands were happening at that same time.
