Good Karma Comes My Way
There might be a Wii shortage in Australia but not at casa del Barker.
I just bought a Wii off of one of my photoblogger friends. (Thanks to the Universe and Akida)
It is my very first gaming system ever. I've never been big on video games. Tetris and solitare are the only game I've played with any regularity. But I've played it at a few times at Kris' place and found it really fun.
And so we will be able to have an extra Wii to use at my work. So why not? Right?
So should it rain for the next week or so you won't see me complaining...

Things I'm greateful for: the food edition
For this installment I'm going to list some foods that I am thankful for. The foods that I am so glad exist on this planet.
2. Fresh cherries- cherries are in season at the moment in Sydney, they are just so beautiful and sweet. They just scream Aussie Christmas, all red and juicy
3. Parmesan cheese- I love cheese, but parmesan just rocks my world
4. Fresh baked sour dough bread- especially the stuff from Bourke Street Bakery. drool.
5. Red delicious apples- I must eat 3 or 4 red delicious apples a week.
6. Birthday cake- why does birthday cake taste better than any other cake? Chocolate, melty ice cream, a bit of candle wax, yummy
7. Cheese grits- From the Wishbone in Chicago- I have to have this every time I'm in Chicago.
8. Ben and Jerry's ice cream (either Cherry Garcia or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough) What can I say?
9. Blueberries- on cereal, ice cream, alone. yum
10. Truffle butter- I bit posh, ok, a LOT posh. But lordy oh so worth it. And put it on #3 from this list and all is right in the world
11. Corn- on the cob, creamed, fresh, I love it all. But I am a girl from Illinois so corn is part of my heritage.

tick tock
If you are still looking for some last minute gifts (you know who you are) check out the 77 design gifts under $77.
Simply brilliant.
The bubble scrubber, the amazingly cool modern gingerbread house, the Edison-style phonograph kit, Momspit (yes, Momspit), the mirror angle scope, the fun 3D drawing kit and the ever so clever S-XL cake pan.
What a list.
But try to forget the list before next Christmas, you might just get something from me off of the it....

This is my 1001st post.
What a milestone for me.
I've been trying to think of something interesting to do for the big one-oh-oh-one. I didn't just want to have a big whinge about work or talk about the fish I made for dinner. I thought this might be a golden opportunity to start something new, something big, something positive.
What I've come up with is this:
I'm going to start posting lists of ten things I'm grateful for until I reach a list of 1001 things. 1001 things that I can look at, reflect on, even celebrate. Now we've all read that being thankful is good for you and that is can be one of the keys to true happiness, so if that's the case, in about 100 posts I should be totally blissed out.
Excellent.
Now we all know that posts of 10 won't make up 1001, so to even things up I'm going to start out with just one thing.
Here goes.
1. I am grateful for the internet because without it I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with my friends and family as much as I do. (Not to mention the shopping, news, games, music, etc, etc)
That's one post down. 100 to go.
Yeah!

(that doesn't mean I'm going to abandon normal posts, this isn't going to turn into a huge list, the grateful list will just be an ongoing project)

After my experience this week at Kent Paper (who SUCK if you haven't heard) I thought the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory that Kris posted was rather timely.
So I took it and it seems that I have a score of 0.00 in the Hostile Sexism and 0.64 in the Benevolent Sexism Score. Both are pretty low compared to other men and women.
But I'm with Kris on one of the questions. It can be interpreted in a few ways. (but I don't want to spoil it for you)
All in all it is a very interesting test, it made me really think about how I feel about men and women.
But if you take it read it very carefully, some of the questions are worded strangely.

Christmas has come early
We decided this year to only spend a limited amount on each other for Christmas so that we could take a little trip in January.
Soooo.....
I have just booked 2 tickets to see Spamalot.
Whoo-hoo!!
So if anyone wants to come along, we are going to the 8pm show on Saturday 5 January in Melbourne.

Comment on comments
I'm going to have to moderate comments for a while as I don't want to promote certain, ahem, penis enlargement sites.
So if you comment and it doens't appear right away, its not because i dont love you, I just don't like spammers!

DO NOT SHOP AT KENT PAPER
Kent Paper at Balgowlah SUCKS!
If you are a woman or hate it when women are treated poorly, DON'T shop at Kent Paper in Balgowlah, EVER!
I think I have actually found the most sexist, racist pig of a man working at Kent Paper in Balgowlah.
He not only referred to me as 'little missy' on no less than 3 occasions, told me that I must be 'just off the boat', but but also made the comment that someone like me 'would know nothing about accounting'. Then, as if the verbal assault weren't enough, he RIPPED a box of paper table cloths from my hands suggesting that couldn't possibly carry it to my car.
That was the last straw.
I couldn't in good conscience spend my work's money with someone who was so disgusting. So I cancelled the order. And do you know what tha freak did when I asked him to cancel my order and produce a credit note for me? He said he'd cancel the order but why did I need credit note, didn't I trust him?
What? He gave me no reason to trust him. I wouldn't have put it past him to bill us for the papaer that I didn't take.
So if you are looking for a party supplier in Sydney that actually knows a thing or two about good customer service try The Party People Shop, Oswald Sealy or Party Products.
And lastly, I direct this to anyone at Kent Paper in Balgowlah, you really have to wonder how much business you've lost because of the rude person at your shop's counter. I would be a great deal of business
