I got the music in me

When we were driving to the crag the other day, we started talking about words you can't help but sing. I was glad to find out that I wasn't the only one who had a hard time just saying the word 'monorail' without busting into song.

So I present to you the list of words that always get me a-singin'

Monorail- Of course
Istambul- Not Constantinople
Changes- ch-ch-ch-changes
Phenomena- de-de-de-de-de
Rawhide- Not that I say 'Rawhide' very often...
Fame- Get out those leg warmers
Copacabana- Have a banana

But I know there's more.
I'm sure I'll add more.

:)

My cat is psychic.

I've had a really crappy day today and he's been sitting in my lap all night just purring away.

He's the best therapy a girl could ask for.

Another Aussie Award

Australian author/illustrator Shaun Tan won Album of the Year at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, and I couldn't be happier.

I just love this book. If you haven't read 'The Arrival' get yourself a copy. It is touching, insightful and just plain beautiful. The wordless graphic novel has already won won the NSW Premier's Literary Awards Book of the Year 2007 and the 2007 CBC Picture Book of the Year. It was easily my favourite book from last year, words or no words.

'The Arrival' tells the tale of an immigrant moving to a new place to make a better life for his family. It is a tale that has been told many times, but Tan's approach is different. He creates a world that is not only foreign to the immigrant, but to anyone who enters it. You really get the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land. But the immigrant makes his way, slowly and with some trials. It isnt' a 'kids' book per se, it is a read for the whole family.

Well done Shaun.

Things I'm grateful for: random

I'm sitting here in my living room. The cat is fixed on some stick, or skink or something and I realised that I hadn't done a '10 things' list in a while. So I'm going to look around my living room and come up with this list.
How very stream of consciousness of me...

1. my sofa- it is soft, comfy and purple!
2. The trees off of my balcony- they bring lots of birds and possums into our life. And are quite pretty!
3. My dining table- it needs a little bit of restoration, but it is an original Parker set from the late 60's/early 70's. And we got it for a bargain!
4. The convenience of our apartment- we are walking distance to the train, like 20 minutes to the city, walking distance to the gym. How good is that?
5. Google spell check....
6. All the birds we get on our balcony- I just love Australian birds!
7. Running water- jeez, how lucky are we to have clean water whenever we want it?
8. The Furminator- I really need to blog how much this little thing has changed our life, and Sparky's life. This thing is just amazing! It totally lives up to the claims. If you have a pet, just get one. You can thank me later
9. The DVR- oh, seriously, What did we do before our DVR? We watch what we want, when we want and without commercials. Could things get any better?
10. Ralph Wiggum- No, really. I love Ralph. He is charming, insightful, and oddly witty. Ok, I realise he is almost definatly mentally handicapped in some way, but Ralph calls it like it is. He will eat just about anything, including many things he shouldn't. (I was always fond of the paste-eaters in my class) Sometimes he gets it wrong (once calling Superintendent Chalmers "Super Nintendo Chalmers") but he always smiles and laughs it off. Thanks Matt Groening for giving us Ralph. Oh, and here is the BEST list of Ralph Quotes.

Wow, that was easy.

Tell me something I didn't know

As it turns out Australia is one of the least affordable countries when it comes to housing affordability.
'All of Australia's large capital cities (Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide) are rated "severely unaffordable." '
This study of housing prices worldwide lists the top 50 least affordable markets and 18 of those markets are in Australia.

Lets hope the new government is listening and will finally do something about it.

Free to good home

Anyone want some blue mascara?
I did some make-up shopping the other day and accidentally bought blue mascara instead of my normal Great Lash black. (the label says its 'Royal Blue)I've opened it but not used it. If you want it just email me and I'll send it to you. I hate to see something go to waste.

My new favourite quote

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.
Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

KAAAAAHHHHNNNN!!!!

I'm sitting here drinking Moet champagne, eating Belgian chocolates and watching Fantasy Island with my husband

Can life get any better?

Actually, yes it can. We are having all this fun because we are celebrating Rob's completion of a climb called 'Palm Sunday', at a grade of 21 (I know that won't mean a lot to many people, but let's just say that he did a really hard climb today)

Oh and Ricardo Montalban is the crowned king of overacting...bless his heart.

*ok, I've figured out what game they should make for Wii. A home version of Don't Forget The Lyrics'. There are lots of vioce recognition systems out there, so this should be totally possible. But, then again, if they did make this game I would probably never leave the house.
