thoughts

So I want to paint our kitchen floors white. They are currently wood floors stained quite dark and slealed with some sort of polyurethane. It is a very dark room, and I'm hoping to lighten it up. Here's some inspiration.

Anyone ever tried it? How much do I need to sand it? What paint would work the best? How long would it take to dry? Thought? Comments?

Everyone I have ever know to do this has used a professional floor sanding company. They have big machines. Here is just a random one from the internet. http://www.carpetsandfloors.com.au/floor_sanding.html

our advise would be paint the walls instead. keep the floor. maybe a skylight?

Do you want it white or whitewashed? That and whether it is actually polyurethane will determine just how much you need to sand.

If it is really poly and you want whitewash, you may need to sand quite a bit. You'll probably have to test an area.

If it is poly, I believe you need to use oil based paint, but you'd want to consult a paint person on that to be certain.

I think that would look great in there if it was whitewashed.

yeah, they would look great with the whitewash....but I think I've gone off it for the moment. right now I'm just thinking big light coloured rug and leave the floors as is...there is talk of maybe laying a rubber floor....but that's for another day. I like the look of this rug: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/80122559
at Ikea, but I need to check out what it will feel like to walk on.
