now with 'real fake birds'
I know the Alfred Hitchcock 'The Birds' Barbie Doll has been blogged here and there, but man I just love it. Classic pop culture mix. What's not to love?
I guess it just come form me being a Hitchcock fan. Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo and of course, The Birds. Oh man, that scene where they where they are walking out of the house and the birds are just sitting everywhere just watching. To this day if I notice a bird watching me I get a chill. Like they have some plan or something. The Birds came out in 1963 and it still has an effect! Jeez.
I guess that's the sign of a good flick, eh?
I should get some sleep, big day tomorrow.
Happy Chirstmas!
Just watch out for those birds..

gg shopping tips
With just a week until Chritmas if anyone is looking for a last minute stocking stuffer, here's a good one.
I was just saying to someone at work that they should make some of these bouncy things for adults and here they are! I always wanted one when I was a kid but I never had one.
Great fun for the whole family :)

Aussie music
I was watching Rockquiz tonight and the singer from Augie March was on. I didn't know he was a big Iron Maiden fan, go figure...If you haven't heard 'One Crowded Hour', really, give it a go. It is truly amazing. But it's nothing like Iron Maiden.
Here are the lyrics just in case you can't understand his faux Dylan accent, lol.

let there be light
Things are moving right along at Casa del Barker. Friday the induction cooktop and new oven went in. (whoo-hoo) And we had the electrician take out the cheap IKEA lighting that was criss crossing our entryway and dining room. It's really amazing how much bigger the space looks without it.
Now we just have bare bulbs stuck in the ceiling (but ya know what, I'd rather have that than what we had before!)
But now the search for the perfect pendant lights begins. I've always liked the Tord Boontje garland light, but after I read a review, I don't think it will work for our space (it looks like I'd need at least two for it to be effective in our dining room)
The I saw the Icarus light by the same designer. It's pretty big and impressive and just might do the trick for our entryway.
And I guess if we do something that over the top in the entry, we should do something a little more subdued above the dining table. The Zoom light is amazing as well...but I don't know that we can get it in Australia, plus I'm sure its out of my budget....still...nice to think about :)

happy newness
I used my new induction cooktop tonight.
So fancy!
It boils water so fast. The oven isn't quite ready for baking (that's for Sunday) but I made spag tonight in no time. So far I'm finding that I've got more control than gas. I never thought I'd say that.
We'll see how the new oven goes....cupcakes maybe?

Bite this
So I FINALLY read Twilight (If you don't know what I'm talking about...get out from under your rock, would ya?)
I'm throwing a Twilight party at work and thought I should actually have some passing knowledge of the text before rattling off some trivia questions.
What did I think?
Well, like many, I thought it could have used a good old fashioned edit and yes, it was full of cliches, but it was entertaining. (It wasn't as painful as I thought it might be)
The thing that I think really connects with many readers is the intensity of the relationships.
Most of us remember those really intense relationships that we had when we were 13, 14, 15. How our best friend (or maybe first boyfriend) was E V E R Y T H I N G. I feel that Twilight really captures how important that is without belittling it. And it doesn't matter if you are 13 or 35, readers get that, 'its not just me' feeling. We've all been there, and it's ok.
From a literary stand point, no, it isn't anything groundbreaking. But it is fun. I don't know that I'll haul off and read the rest of the series...but I might see if Kris wants to go see the movie next week sometime...
Besides, I just brought home Wally Lamb's new one. And if you thought I Know This Much is True was a door stop, good lord, The Hour I First Believed is cinder block.
Wish me luck!
