Go vertical

I wonder how hard it would be to make this vertical garden. It is so clever...maybe I could mount it high enough that the possums could not get at it.

Clever

So cute! I love the use of decals. So much potential. I've done some glass etching, but this takes it to a whole new level.

My hubby says we have some decal paper sitting around in the office. Sometimes its handy being married to a model railroader. :)

Quit yo jibber-jabberin'!

After reading Kris' post about the B.A. Baracas Sock Monkey I was reminded of the brilliant Mr T Snickers ad. It just kills me every time. I love it.

From Little Things

I've been listening to this song from Paul Kelly a lot lately.

Here's a little background on Vincent Lingiari and what the song is about.

I would like to be in this cloud/fort/tree house thingy right now.
Isn't it just dreamy?

(Yes, I know its a mushroom cloud, but it reminds me of a thunder cloud, and that makes me think of those great summer storms we would get when I was a kid in the Midwest. sigh)

So much awesomeness

Ok first I get the great news about The Flaming Lips coming back to Sydney. Then my most awesome-est aunt Janet books her tickets to Sydney to come for a visit (whoo-hoo). Now this....

Sydney is getting the WORLD PREMIER of the new Star Trek movie. Man, Sydney is the place to be right now.
We so rock!

What next? Flying unicorns bringing us baskets of free beer and kittens?

Ok, that would rock.

Woof

So we leave about 5 minutes away from a dog park. I drive by it almost every day and it is always a source of entertainment.

Like the other, there was a black and white dog in the car in front of me and as we came closer the park the dog got more and more and more excited, running back and forth in the car, looking out the window. You could almost hear the dog saying, "Mom, dog park! Look! Over there! Dog park! Come on, let's go! DOG PARK!" It was just so funny. But then the car passed the park and the dog was visibly bummed, he so wanted to go play in that park. He eventually calmed down and just sat in the back seat.
Poor little guy.

Wonder what we'll see today, maybe that black and white dog will be chasing a ball at the dog park.

Who's Watching part deux

So we saw Watchmen last night.
How was it? It was awesome! I loved it.

I read the books years and years ago, and I'm sure some purists will take issues with some missing/changed parts, but taken as an independent work I think it's great. I mean really, think of the parts they had to leave out of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, there's just no way to do a film adaptation without leaving a few things out.

That said, I thought Watchmen is definitely not a subtle film. Nothing is half done. From the fights to the sets to the mythical references are all very in your face, nothing is left to the imagination.
It was one of more violent and sexual films I've seen come out of America for a while. It is definitely not for the kiddies (even though there was one kid in the row in front of us that was so small he needed a booster seat to see! yikes!!!) But the sex and violence is all part of the story. I mean really the main characters are crime fighters, they live a very violent life. There were one or two times in the film I needed to look away. (I know my limits)
And I was really glad to see that director Zack Snyder didn't shy away from Dr Manhattan's nudity, with one notable exception....but I wont spoil that for you if you haven't seen it.

The cast was great. Jeffry Dean Morgan's Comedian was loathsome and self absorbed, but damn, part of me wanted to like him. Jackie Earle Hayley's Rorschach was creepy as hell (but his growly voice seemed a little forced at times.) Malin Akerman's Silk Spectre was sexy and kicked some serious ass! The make up the used on Robert Wisden's Richard Nixon was a little over the top, his nose looked Pinocchio-eske, but maybe that would happen to someone if they were President for like 10 years.

But overall, I found Watchmen to be dark, insightful, scary, violent, sexy, and intense.
Just like the book.

I think I might have to buy this one when it comes out on DVD

Pretty in Pink

I helped a kid at work the other day that was looking for information about pink dolphins. PINK? huh?

Why yes, little did I know that there ARE pink dolphins in the world. They live in the Amazon river and are the only river dwelling dolphin. Crazy huh? And just in case you were wondering, yes they are pink

We live in an amazing world

Who's Watching?

Both Margaret and David really liked Watchmen.
I think we might have to see it on Tuesday night after work.
Hopefully I'll like it more than I liked Iron Man.
