Oh Miss Ellie. How I love you so.
Who (or what) is Miss Ellie you ask?
Behold the wonder

Let's hear it for beetroot!
I've come late to the whole beetroot love fest.
I don't think I ever really ate them before I moved to Australia. But Aussies just LOVE them. They put them in/on everything. Salads, burgers, every kind of sandwich, dips, etc. So I've really come to appreciate these little red beauties. Seriously, if it weren't so late I would start making this salad right this minute. Beets and apples. Sweet and earthy. yum! And I didn't know that 'beetroot has been known to fight High Blood pressure, cancer, cholesterol, and constipation'. (beets=good poopin'. double yay!)
We were planning on firing up the grill tomorrow anyway, so I might just have to give this side dish a try.

Insert sad face here
Ok, so it's sad about Michael Jackson and all...but with all of this footage they've been showing on the 'news'...I've seen more crotch grabbing in the last 24 hours than I ever wanted to.
Will someone please think of the children?!?!?

Triple J has this contest where they are wanting listeners to vote for the hottest songs of 'all time'. Now I'm sure they are looking for lots of votes for Nirvana, The Ramones and other stuff from the last 30 years, but I think they might need some variety. Some of my choices include 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky, Giacomo Puccini's Nessun Dorma and Dave Brubeck's Take Five. A little classical, opera and jazz in the mix. (Ok, I did vote for The Clash, Prince and Johnny Cash as well).
But it will be interesting to see what tops the list. Apparently when they did this back in 1989 Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart topped the list. The countdown will begin on Tuesday 7th July.

Ok, seriously try this tomato mushroom sauce recipe. I made it with a little less garlic, red wine vinegar instead of red wine (we didn't have open red) and put it over spaghetti. It was so yummy.
And a great meal after a long day of whale watching.

So last night I was watching a local travel show and they did a piece about Samoa. Beautiful sun, beaches, friendly locals and all for $45 a night all meals included. Sweet!
So this morning I get up and go to their website to find out the finer details and I see in the lower right hand corner of the site they have a most 'popular searches' list. Here's what people are looking for on the Getaway site:
Today's Top 9 Travel Stories
1.New backpacker hot spots
2.Top nudist beaches
3.Take it all off! Australia's best nudist resorts
4.Top 10 most useless travel gadgets
5.World's best love shacks
6.Win a Ducati 848 Superbike!
7.In Japan for the penis festival
8.Best places for a dirty weekend
I'm not really sure what that list says about Getaway watchers....looks like a bunch of backpackers that want to get their gear off.
Anyway, here's the article I was looking for.

Gettin' my mojo back
So today I've done something I haven't done in ages.
I started a new knitting project.
Since last year I just haven't felt like knitting anything. Nothing. Zip. Zero.
But recently two things happened. I found out that I'm going to be an aunt (Rob's sister is expecting, yay!) and a good friend gave me some lovely sock wool for my birthday. So I thought to myself, 'self, it's time to pick up those sticks!'
I found a cute (and easy) pattern and cast on.
I'm about half way through the first bootie.
And since it look like we are going to have a dry night we might actually get a chance to see some of this Smart Light thing I've been reading about.

My 15 minutes come back
Have you seen that David Jones clearance ad they are running at the moment? I'm the person carrying the ladder in the show window. Yup. That's me with very short hair circa 1999. (or maybe 1998)
They filmed the ad way back when I worked for them (that seems like a lifetime ago) and I can't believe they are still using it. When I first moved to Sydney I was on the window team at DJs Sydney. It was a fun time. We worked so hard. I would not change it for the world.
I learned so much about Aussie culture, made so many good friends and actually got to hold the little black dress from Breakfast at Tiffanys in my hands.
I'm so glad they are running this ad. I really love the opportunity to reminisce about a really important time in my life.
