grateful
This is going to be a hard one.
But I'm going to do a 10 things I'm thankful for. I think its important to stop and reflect on things, bad and good.
I'm sitting in my Mom's hospital room. The nurse is changing her IV. She's sleeping. So here are 10 things I'm grateful for as I sit here right now
1. Friends- I don't know what I'd do without friends. I just can't imagine. My load is so much lighter by having good friends.
2. Family- I don't even need to say anything. they are just there, with anything and everything
3. My husband- There are no words. He is everything to me.
4. Fast acting pain medication
5. Free wireless internet in the hospital
6. Chapstick- in and out of the cold has made my lips really chapped.
7. Warm socks
8. Time- I'll take what I can get
9. My little black Moleskine- my memory sucks so having a place to write stuff down (and carry with me) has just been a life saver
10. Laughter- The last week has sucked beyond belief for everyone involved. But laughing every once in a while is such a great release.
That's about it for now. I might try to sneak out and get some breakfast and see how much it snowed last night.

Things I'm grateful for: random
I'm sitting here in my living room. The cat is fixed on some stick, or skink or something and I realised that I hadn't done a '10 things' list in a while. So I'm going to look around my living room and come up with this list.
How very stream of consciousness of me...
1. my sofa- it is soft, comfy and purple!
2. The trees off of my balcony- they bring lots of birds and possums into our life. And are quite pretty!
3. My dining table- it needs a little bit of restoration, but it is an original Parker set from the late 60's/early 70's. And we got it for a bargain!
4. The convenience of our apartment- we are walking distance to the train, like 20 minutes to the city, walking distance to the gym. How good is that?
5. Google spell check....
6. All the birds we get on our balcony- I just love Australian birds!
7. Running water- jeez, how lucky are we to have clean water whenever we want it?
8. The Furminator- I really need to blog how much this little thing has changed our life, and Sparky's life. This thing is just amazing! It totally lives up to the claims. If you have a pet, just get one. You can thank me later
9. The DVR- oh, seriously, What did we do before our DVR? We watch what we want, when we want and without commercials. Could things get any better?
10. Ralph Wiggum- No, really. I love Ralph. He is charming, insightful, and oddly witty. Ok, I realise he is almost definatly mentally handicapped in some way, but Ralph calls it like it is. He will eat just about anything, including many things he shouldn't. (I was always fond of the paste-eaters in my class) Sometimes he gets it wrong (once calling Superintendent Chalmers "Super Nintendo Chalmers") but he always smiles and laughs it off. Thanks Matt Groening for giving us Ralph. Oh, and here is the BEST list of Ralph Quotes.
Wow, that was easy.

Things I'm greateful for: the food edition
For this installment I'm going to list some foods that I am thankful for. The foods that I am so glad exist on this planet.
2. Fresh cherries- cherries are in season at the moment in Sydney, they are just so beautiful and sweet. They just scream Aussie Christmas, all red and juicy
3. Parmesan cheese- I love cheese, but parmesan just rocks my world
4. Fresh baked sour dough bread- especially the stuff from Bourke Street Bakery. drool.
5. Red delicious apples- I must eat 3 or 4 red delicious apples a week.
6. Birthday cake- why does birthday cake taste better than any other cake? Chocolate, melty ice cream, a bit of candle wax, yummy
7. Cheese grits- From the Wishbone in Chicago- I have to have this every time I'm in Chicago.
8. Ben and Jerry's ice cream (either Cherry Garcia or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough) What can I say?
9. Blueberries- on cereal, ice cream, alone. yum
10. Truffle butter- I bit posh, ok, a LOT posh. But lordy oh so worth it. And put it on #3 from this list and all is right in the world
11. Corn- on the cob, creamed, fresh, I love it all. But I am a girl from Illinois so corn is part of my heritage.

This is my 1001st post.
What a milestone for me.
I've been trying to think of something interesting to do for the big one-oh-oh-one. I didn't just want to have a big whinge about work or talk about the fish I made for dinner. I thought this might be a golden opportunity to start something new, something big, something positive.
What I've come up with is this:
I'm going to start posting lists of ten things I'm grateful for until I reach a list of 1001 things. 1001 things that I can look at, reflect on, even celebrate. Now we've all read that being thankful is good for you and that is can be one of the keys to true happiness, so if that's the case, in about 100 posts I should be totally blissed out.
Excellent.
Now we all know that posts of 10 won't make up 1001, so to even things up I'm going to start out with just one thing.
Here goes.
1. I am grateful for the internet because without it I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with my friends and family as much as I do. (Not to mention the shopping, news, games, music, etc, etc)
That's one post down. 100 to go.
Yeah!

(that doesn't mean I'm going to abandon normal posts, this isn't going to turn into a huge list, the grateful list will just be an ongoing project)
